Yeah, as I often point out, except around Richmond, the federals pretty much drove the secesh from just about every battlefield, including Atlanta.

Atlanta fell on 9/2/64. Sherman was anxious to get his affairs in order and press on to Savannah - where he ultimately drove the rebels, Charleston, where he drove the rebels, Colummbia, SC where he drove the rebels and so on where he continued to drive the rebels.




But President Lincoln told Sherman to hold up in the Atlanta area until the 1864 presidential election was in the bag.
