Oh lawd yes. The amount of flag officers (and their bloated staffs) that we have these days is utterly ridiculous.

ETA: although this is still small potatoes in the overall DoD budget. The real room for reform and cost reduction is in the acquisition process.

How about the VA and TRICARE? Since conservatives seem to think the government is terrible at administrating health insurance why would we trust them with our soldiers and vets?
Send the soldiers and vets to the mercy of private industry if you guys really think industry has our best interest at heart.

Depends. Either way, I still support cutting it.

Sure. I'm a big fan of just having veteran healthcare provided for through private industry. Just make Tricare a universal insurance for vets eligible for the VA and retirees and let them see their preferred healthcare provider.

You realize that Tricare is administered by private insurance companies, right?

ETA: For example, Humana is the insurance company for Tricare South.

The government is the sponsor and fund the claims but claims are paid by Humana and Humana handles customer service, professional relations, etc. It's a TPA arrangement.

Also, TDP or Tricare Dental Plan is also administered by private industry.

I think those guards who protect the endless flame, or whatever you call it, is a waste of money.

I just always assumed its subsidized by DoD, the premiums are 47 a month for an individual and 150 a month for a family and it pays for everything, I think the deductible is a grand?

I worked for TRICARE for a long time as a contractor. It is a the management activity to insure all active duty and dependents. Huge budget.

Ya, that's part of the compensation package for getting shot at, blown up, or otherwise sent to third world shitholes away from your friends and family for a year or more at a time, multiple times.

Sure, if there is proof it's purpose has become obsolete or can be better performed by another department.

Can I name any of them? No.

So we agree the federal government is fully capable of managing the delivery of health insurance? Great.
