Or are you of the belief that all of our many departments serve a value that outdoes its costs?

Fire Departments: Administered and paid for by state/local taxes
Public Schools: Administered and paid for by state/local taxes
Stop Lights: Administered and paid for by state/local taxes.

Please continue.

That one is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. That's why the strawman was brought out.

I'd be ok with an across the board cut of some percentage. And when I say across the board I mean the Israeli welfare payments and the military too.

It seems there is common ground then.

Why don't our leaders do this then?

10% to every budget over 5 years seems feasible.

One caveat though, we have to address the debt so 10% may not be enough.

They don't want to get rid of the military either. They love our wars and other global commitments.

I was honestly asking. Didn't know what OP was referring to. I guess like the EPA kind of stuff? Cuts across the board would be fine. Taxes are crazy.

Yup, I totally agree with this...and not just the welfare payments to Israel. All the welfare payments we make to other countries.

The military budget is massively bloated, and I say that as a member of the military (if only part time now.)

Department of Ed, DEA, Dept of Commerce, Agriculture, and the IRS.

Combined that would total 250ish billion dollars.

I'll bet every single member of Congress also has a similar number of support staff. Ridiculous

The problem with an across the board cut is not all government spending is equal

For example, foreign aid is something countries with excess money give. We have no excess money, therefor we should not be giving any foreign aid.

Sell them things, even at cost? Okay. BUt straight up give them cash? Nope.

Department of Commerce. If business is so much better at doing things then why do they need a government agency.

Small Business Administration. Once again let private businesses do this themselves.

Department of Education. Let states handle it. Republican and conservative states can let their educational systems go to crap and pay the price for it in the world economy.
