I can give first hand info since I grew up in the 50s.
Race: Blacks were indeed considered lower class. Has that changed (think urban America)?
Blacks got married, had children, worked for a living, didn't do drugs, didn't have welfare. Is that bad?
Health Care: It was a great leap forward. Got the polio vaccine and new antibiotics. When I was a kid they had a yellow sign on my neighbors door. Quarantine for Tuberculosis.
Children: We played outdoors with no supervision. Even at age 5. No TV, no video games. Neighbors allowed us to play army and cowboys in their yard. We never hurt any of their property.
Lawyers: They were for writing wills.
Sex: If girls had sex and got pregnant they went away to visit Aunt Anna in another town. Baby got adopted and girl came back to school.
