So, again, assume that the black girl is accepted only because she is black.

That would suck.

Being rejected only because she is black also sucks. There is a happy middle ground here that was totally obliterated by this chapter's racist alumni.

one of the things that sucks about this is that any punishment will only hurt the current members, who wanted the integrated population

Agreed. Its like the NCAA "punishing" a program and current athletes for something they had nothing to do with.

I joined a fully integrated fraternity - LSU Army ROTC.

Ole War Skule, representin'.

Then I joined another one - the Bengal Raiders.

(Never volunteer for anything - especially a "Ranger Adventure Company")

I hope this hurts Alabama in football recruiting. I hope young black people stop going to Alabama because of this. I would love to see Nick explain this to a black football recruit's family.
Football recruits don't give a crap about this.

They are looking at how playing for a certain school may affect their future.

You are gullible as hell if you think players would pass up playing for Saban because of this.

I guess the military is the only "frat" I ever joined also. I went to a fairly expensive college on a ROTC scholarship, and just saw the whole Greek thing as a bunch of rich kids involved in a mutual masturbation society where I might pop in and mooch some booze occasionally. Since I never wanted to join one in the first place, maybe you can understand why I would object to "shaming" an org into taking someone the whole group didn't want. As Archie Bunker would say, "Whoop-de-do Edith! Whoop-de-doo!"

Lot of truth here. I've seen far more racism here in NYC in my 4 years here than any of my 26 years in Louisiana.

This is a comment to the "article," apparently by a student at Alabama. Seems like you libs are getting your panties in a wad over nothing.

This article is not only wrong but incredibly offensive to any member of the Greek System at UA. Sororities did not "win the right to ban blacks" and almost every chapter has black members. The SGA Senate voted down a resolution that would do absolutely nothing, the only thing that the poorly worded resolution would do is say that "we hope you integrate", which was taken care of in September. If the resolution had passed we would still be arguing that the SGA's resolution was only a formality and not enough. No one can ever win with you people
Well, I decided to actually look this up, and Good God Almighty I wish I hadn't

University Of Alabama White Sororities Admit Black Students... In 2013
September 20, 2013

AP-News
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Black women are joining traditionally white sororities at the University of Alabama amid efforts to end racial segregation within Greek-letter social groups, the head of the school said Friday.

University President Judy Bonner said 11 black students and three students from other minority groups received bids, or invitations, to join a historically white sorority. Of that group, four black students and two students from other minority backgrounds have accepted those invitations, Bonner said. She expected the numbers to rise as the academic year continues.

"I am confident that we will achieve our objective of a Greek system that is inclusive, accessible and welcoming to students of all races and ethnicities," Bonner said in a video statement. "We will not tolerate anything less."

The university's Greek organizations have been segregated by race since the first black students enrolled and created social organizations. One oversight organization has been composed of white sororities and the other composed of minority sororities. Only a handful of blacks attempted to join the historically white Greek groups at Alabama, where there are also historically black fraternities and sororities.

But that system came under scrutiny when the campus newspaper, The Crimson White, reported allegations this month that two prospective black members were passed over by all-white sororities because of pressure from alumnae, and in one case, an adviser. The coverage caused a wide-ranging debate, even prompting Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, an alumnus, to say that fraternal organizations should choose members based on their qualifications, not their race.

So the truth is, some of these "incredibly offended members of the Greek System at UA" decided to actually admit minority members for the first time . . . . AT THE BEGINNING OF LAST SEMESTER !

Seriously?

How effing-progressive

That's correct. The alum of this particular silly sorority were not shamed into accepting some young lady they didn't approve of whether the reasons were skin color, family tree, car she drove, the way she dressed, hair color or complexion.

You do understand that when you say that shaming is an effective tool in shaping thinking, you do align yourself with people standing outside an abortion clinic, or religious fundamentalists shaking a bible, right?

But let's make it an issue for Alabama football. I really have no desire to see Alabama have success on the football field.

So, in other words, this is all a load of bullshite.

What was the quote some said earlier?

The amount that you are offended is directly related to how dumb you are.

Seems about right.

Just curious - why do you say that? I see no evidence linking the GOP to anything here.

ETA: On closer reading of the article, it seems that sororities did not win anything at all, this was simply a procedural student government thing without any real authority.

No you were incorrect in your previous post when you said "nobody" wanted these girls, you realize that right?

Absolutely. As long as people are peacefully assembling in a non violent manner on public property, I have absolutely no qualms. You see, I'm for freedom whether I personally agree with the cause or not. Judging by your posts, I know that may sound strange to you.
