Something about this statement irks me. Maybe it's because it sounds like a prime directive from Lenin or Trotsky. OR maybe Valerie Jarrett?

If you and your buddies want to form your own little racist club go for it, but the U of Alabama student body is partially supported by my tax dollars. Denial of entry to blacks is a mark of slavery plain and simple.

Some kind of stuipd here.

How many UA sororities were all-white prior to this 2013-14 academic year?

I'm confused. Explain to me exactly what your beef is here? You would rather silence those who intend on speaking out and exercising their 1st amendment right against racists, bigots, etc?

I wasn't into this topic until I actually realized the controversy here had nothing to do with a strawman. Reading the UA Greek system apparently accepted segregation until the start of THIS ACADEMIC YEAR, I've got to wonder WTF the rationale for defense really is . . . . . at the University of Ala-GeorgeWallaceBlockingTheDoor-Bama.

They are affiliated with a major state university, no excuse for this stupidity.

As long as there is a Black Caucus, I'm ok with it. Go suck the dick of those that make a living keeping your 'people' down.

This is my problem with it too. If this was just some bunch of crackers flying a Confederate flag in their back yard and having meetings in their living rooms, I wouldn't care. I do care that a university is essentially sanctioning this nonsense from a university-related sorority.

It's actually the same thing. Open your blind eyes. I care not for race, but do onto others as you would have them do unto you. If UA wants to do that then they are VERY shortsighted. Likewise to the Black Caucus.

Sororities and fraternities aren't quite the same thing, but I hate it when people argue against clubs discriminating. It's a fricking club. It's meant to be exclusive.

I am taking the opposing side here though. A sorority should be based on merit. The Black Caucus is the BLACK Caucus.

BLACK.

Clubs can be exclusive on many different variables and this is a case where racial discrimination is okay.

P.S. Nice edit to not fix your link

So where's the line of judgement? Is the university going to put a hold on every activity that could be held as offensive? Who's going to be the judge of what's acceptable?

Again I ask, would you force the university to integrate sororities? If so, how? Will there be a quota? Who will approve new members? The university?

Well, this isn't just about something that's offensive. It's exclusion based on race. Now if this were some private club on private property that wanted to exclude based on race, I'd say knock yourself out. But a public university funded by tax dollars? I have a problem with that.

No quotas, but I would not allow sororities or fraternities that refuse to allow members of other races.

while i was at LSU law there was a secret system to give minorities extra, intimate study sessions with professors. there was actually a big issue when one white girl, who was friends with a lot of the black kids and who was struggling, wanted to join once word got out, it was a pretty big deal. i couldn't believe a public university was being so racist in the mid-2000s

Had a similar issue in one of my nursing classes. I found out about 3/4 into the semester our black professor was having secret study sessions with only the black girls in the class. It rubbed me the wrong way because she was giving them "hints" about things that would be on the exams.

It's sort of an interesting argument. Does being racist pay? I mean, if you're an NBA owner... and a racist... it's going to cost you A LOT of money.

I'd argue that in today's world... limiting your organization exclusively based on race probably means you miss out on more than gain.

Sure, its not an issue at all. Keep tellin' yourselve that. The south has been trying to sweep racism under the rug for over 400 years now

Have you ever been to Boston or New York? They don't bother sweeping racism under the rug they'll just come out and say it. I've heard more disgusting and rude comments there than I ever heard around Louisiana.
