Well, I certainly know those who want the beginning part of that statement.

They just want to be in control. I don't think either side cares who sings lead as long as they are all using the same hymnal.

Very good analogy. It is the Church of Government, and thou shalt not blaspheme.

"Separation of Church and State" my arse.

All 'isms' want some form of govt except anarchists. This isn't rocket science. There is a difference between wanting police, military and courts as opposed to govt taking care of your arse from cradle to grave.

The Baptist Church on Oak Street doesn't think highly of the Baptist Church on Elm Street either.

The Conservation of US Constitutional principles. These are the principles that allow mankind the most possible individual liberty that in turn allows people to achieve their potential.

Conservatives understand there is no " Utopia " at the end. It acknowledges a tragic view of mankind, that free people are not " equal" in talents and abilities, and that we are limited by our essential human nature. Unlike Statism it rejects the lie that The State can " perfect " humanity through State control.

Where's that in the constitution again?

Conservatives on the federal level have precisely nothing to do with your state liquor laws. Granted, Conservatism is rooted in Christianity, which does have a love/hate relationship with alcohol, especially on the Lord's day. Living in a completely dry county myself, I'd suggest that if you are able to buy alcohol the other 6 days of the week, you should consider yourself blessed, or cursed, as the case may be.

Then turn around and resist state gun control measures

There's that reverence for that pesky Constitution thing. It is the law of the land, and one of the documents the country was founded upon. I would refer you to the Bill of Rights, specifically the Second Amendment. Coupled with the Tenth Amendment, which reserves to the States those powers NOT enumerated by the Constitution, and you have your answer. What a country we would have if we only revered the Constitution as was intended!

quote:

Liberals want a progressive tax system

Which blatantly violates the 14th Amendment. How is confiscating 50% of one man's earnings, and 0% of another's equal protection under the law?

quote:

less nation building

Code words for allowing Communism and Islam, their preferred forms of government to proliferate, conquering, by force if necessary, countries around the world. Apparently because it works so well.

quote:

smaller military budget

Because we want to make it easier not harder for Communism, Socialism, and Islam to project their power around the globe, rather than have the United States, liberty, democracy, and freedom projected around the world.

quote:

clean air and water through more oversight on industry

Yes, because Conservatives and their families don't live, work, and play in the same country and environment that other people do. The difference is that Conservatives recognize the fact that if the force of government is used to destroy entire industries and the associated livelihoods of those in that industry, chances are that the industry will simply export itself to a country with little or no environmental regulations, and proceed unfettered. This is to the tremendous detriment of the environment, but it makes Liberals feel good.

I could go on, but you get the picture.

Liberalism is just a tool to achieve Progressivism. Progressivism just a tool to achieve Socialism. Socialism is just a tool to achieve Communism. Communism is just a tool to achieve Marxism. All of which are an anathema to the freedoms and liberty found in the Constitution, and the principles this country was founded upon. So the true goal of Liberals is the destruction of this country as we know, and love it. They prove this every day by their actions.

Pretty much, it's a diabolical movement that's gaining momentum, the Prog/leftists must be crushed!

He didn't say it was in the Constitution. He said it is something that Conservatives recognize, and understand, which is for the most part correct.

Average conservative: Family provided for; peace.
Average liberal: Family provided for; peace.

Please don't let that stop you folks from playing the establishment game of divide and conquer (left vs. right; white vs. black, etc.)

I know your comment was a self-satisfied, throwaway line, but it reveals a basic ignorance that is prevalent with Progressives.

The tragic view of humanity is implicit in the Constitution. It's the philosophy of The Founders that informed the Constitution. Conservatives acknowledge that The Nature of Man can not be "cured". It's an acknowledgement that "Men are not angels" and that self -interest will always motivate mankind, because we are human. We can't cure ourselves of our humanity, we can only hope to set a wise framework in which to govern ourselves.

We can't cure greed. We can't cure racism. We can't cure war. We can't cure poverty. We can make incremental gains, as long as we adhere to our Constitutional framework. The Progressive "Man as Angels" construct often results in a cure that is worse than the problem, as we are seeing with the current anti-Free Speech movement, racial unrest in the streets, or immigration, or Healthcare etc.

That's a whole lot of empty preaching. Seriously, read through what you (ETA: wrote) and try to find anything concrete.

You've managed to blame an oxymoronic combination on progressives.

Stagg, I can't force you to be interested in Locke, 18th Century Liberalism, The Founders, the various schools of American political philosophy, the 20th Century Conservative Movement, Russell Kirk, William F Buckley, Hayak, Friedman etc. That's where all that is from. Nor will I dumb it down for you with glib "Conservatives drink Bud light" comments that are enough to satisfy you. Some people need more than that.

You handle the Prog/Idiocracy crowd, and I'll continue to use seminal phrases and concepts and cite the writings of the giants and the people who have studied this for a lifetime use. There is nothing wrong with dabbling around the edges as you do, just don't expect the rest of us to do a remedial for you on demand.
