If that's the case, which I don't believe it to be, why is it racism? Couldn't it be nationalism? The others infected were American, he was Liberian. America is well known overseas for taking care of its own.

And do we know if he was given the “ drug ” that helped these doctors ? was his life not deemed worthy ? why didn't they rush the blood of one of the recovered victims to him like they are doing for the NBC reporter ?

Seriously, man? You do know that you have to match people's blood up right?

I'm a liberal, and I don't even care enough about the guy to form an opinion.
He's more like the equivalent of Rush Limbaugh for conservative whites. Sure conservatives and Limbaugh share a lot of the same ideas - but most conservatives don't really give a crap about what Rush has to say.

according to your study of conservatives?

Possibly, but that's not the way blacks will see it. I don't think it was racism, I think it was his status, I don't think they give a crap. He was turned away 4 or 5 days earlier from the very same hospital and that probably cost him his life, no one can argue that.

He was turned away because no one was thinking Ebola, considering that ZERO humans have been diagnosed with it in the USA in, well, forever.
Before this man was diagnosed, any ED in the ENTIRE COUNTRY would have more than likely done the same thing. Hell, I didn't even know of an Ebola protocol here until this event.
It is pathetic how people attempt to skew facts.

Don't defend the incompetency of those TRAINED healthcare professionals. They train their asses off to be ready, when called upon, to treat rare diseases and adverse events.
Using the lack of Ebola patients in the US is a shitty excuse and most doctors would tell you that.
The hospital dropped be ball. Point blank. That family has a malpractice case on hand more so than a civil rights case

There are common problems ED's face and Ebola presents identically to the flu in its early stage.
It sucks, but is true. No one would've jumped to Ebola as the possibility.
The only issue that exists involves what happened with the relay of travel history info between the nurses and doctors. Doctors were apparently not informed.

I'm convinced these people want racism to exist just so they can claim to be victims.

Unfortunately, StrongSafety is typical of themindset in the black community. Every non-black person is racist, and every black person is a victim of the white power structure.
Most of you don't live in DFW, so I dont know how much of the local coverage, if any, you are seeing. Thomas Duncan is a guy who knowingly lied in order to come to America, he directly exposed dozens of people, including relatives, to the Ebola virus, and yet, you would be surprised if you saw how the black community, at least in DFW, is reacting to his death.
It isn't just Jesse Jackson. They are actually talking about this man as if he was a hero, calling him courageous, and yes, the strong sentiment is that he was given less than optimal care because he was black.
It's amazing. Of course, I know that some people in the media are questioning his treatment, too. This is ridiculous. This man was given the best possible treatment, but he simply didn't survive. Also, people need to remember that the medicine which was used to save the lives of the first 2-3 patients has run out. That's why they're having to try new drugs on EVERYBODY.
But, that's what's going on in DFW with a significant percentage of the black community. The emerging narrative is that (1) Thomas Duncan was somehow a hero, and (2) he received substandard care from the white power structure because he was black.
Just in case some here think strongsarety's sentiments constitute an outlier type of mindset, sadly, it isn't.

Well Scruff, you left out an important. He told the hospital he had been in Liberia. They just didn't document it properly so the docs seeing him didn't think Ebola.

Do you really believe that? Why are we making excuses for competent people?
That sounds more to me like nurses taking the fall for doctors. I just don't believe that.

What did I do?!
All I can do is offer some things I've seen along the way, as a very privileged young adult that grew up in the south and as a token.
