If China Cooperates on NK, That Would be Huge; One Question, Though......

Actually, a couple of questions (in the event fat boy is ousted):
(1) Who are the possible replacements? I'm not expecting a North Korean version of George Washington, but are there any viable options? Does anybody know?
(2) How do we keep the ChiComs from installing a puppet who will simply rubber stamp what Beijing dictates?
I know we have some military people here, even some Intel folks, but how much do we know about this closed country called North Korea?

Let China annex North Korea... now there's some incentive.

A Chinese puppet would be preferable to what we have now.

#2 is infinitely better than what we have now

I'm wary of Chinese leadership on North Korea

If China takes out Kim, they are calling the shots on his replacement. I don't care if they make NK a Chinese province as long as they stabilize the region.

This is not a problem for me, the issue is removing a power mad petulant child with nuclear weapons, China will keep the next man in line.

IMHO it would be a good thing if the new guy is submitted to Chinese Red Army.
They seem out of control as is.

There is and has been a plan for a long time to reunite Korea. That is the inevitable outcome.

I'm not at all opposed to that idea. However I don't see NK as much of an incentive.
NK is pretty much worthless. That's why the Kim family has been allowed control.

South Korea already has a Ministry of Unification, so I would expect unification would be very high on their list. There have been two high profile defections by North Korean elite since 2015. They might be options.

Because unification is a high priority for South Korea. China has nothing to gain from installing a puppet.

That would be the best thing, but would China get on board with that?

It isn't totally worthless. there are hydroelectric dams and coal mines. The Chinese need and use coal.
