If popular vote meant anything, MANY republicans in heavy blue states would show up. Hell, it's not even worth the hassle to vote in the presidential election in California if you're republican. Only thing that would get me to the polls would be local issues and much of that would also be a waste of my time.

Just as important, how many republicans didn't vote in extremely red states?

I waited in line for about 90 minutes to vote R in deep blue Maryland. I'm in an ever shrinking red bubble so I need to vote to keep my local representatives and judges elected.

CA has 14 Republican member delegation in house of reps

Louisiana has 5
Alabama has 6
Mississippi has 3

5 + 6 + 3 = CA

this is one of the weird things about political life in the USA.

since only half the people vote, the ones who sit home watching Honey Boo Boo could elect the entire Congress and POTUS if they were all in.

I think its best they stay home and watch TV. it takes real effort to understand the issues and learn where the candidates stand on them or know if the candidate is just blowing hot air up your pants/dress.

dog whistle politics won the day this time. can't wait to see inflation and the market in two years after Trump and congress address deportation of 2 or 3 million Latinos, and "make" China's Yuan be worth multiples of its current value.

I'm in the Central Valley in California. I haven't registered to vote or plan to vote because I know the state is going democrat every election.

I'm fine with the electoral college and the results. I'm sure the tone in this forum would all be for doing away with the electoral college if the results were reversed.
