Good. China can probably make them cheaper anyway.

Those things are already pieces of shite. Do they really want to copy the Apple way and make shitty products in China?

My guess is this also has something to do with the reintroduction of the ranger to us market. They are going to be building those at the Michigan plant, so my guess is many or most of the us focus workers will switch to that

You (and maybe your source the NYT, not clicking your link) purposely left out the fact that they are also opening a new $1B plant in Kentucky.

So not exactly fake news but definitely manipulated, skewed news. Pick the bad parts, focus on those, ignore the good news.

Par for the course.

Trump's complaint isn't that the plant was opening in Mexico, it's that the plant would be shipping vehicles into the US for sale. He's never complained about opening plants to serve those specific markets.

Isn't this plant building the Focus for the US market?

Better article from a foreign newspaper (BBC)

quote:

The carmaker said the decision would not lead to layoffs in the US.

quote:

Currently, Ford makes its Focus cars in Michigan, Germany and in China.

quote:

The move to China will not affect employment levels in Hermosillo, which produces other models, said spokeswoman Kelli Felker. It also does not affect the plans for the additional investment in Michigan, she said. The Michigan plant currently producing the Focus will switch to making trucks in 2018, with the same number of hourly workers, the firm said. Ford also said it would invest $900m to retool an SUV plant in Kentucky.

Maybe not ideal, but not as bad as the headlines would have you believe?

Bad news - It's opening one in China.

Damn you're fricking stupid. They aren't shipping all of those motherfrickers back to the US for sale, and they are expanding their Asian marketshare, which is good for Ford, good for the U.S. economy and good for U.S. workers.

I'd rather they just keep all operation in the US, but that's not the environment we live in these days.

According the article, that is exactly what they are doing.

I'm not ready the NYT, but my suspicion is that the article insinuates that Ford is building in China instead of Mexico, and fails to mention that the purpose of the plant is to access the Chinese market; whereas the Mexico plant was meant for the US market.

probably not without a big costly factory expansion in Michigan. They pretty much have to build any truck they sell to the us within the us, but they can import cars bully elsewhere easily

Edited-not every vehicle produced there is coming to the US, unlike the vast majority manufactured in Mexico.
