How do you figure it will increase their bottom line?
It's about time somebody realized they were greatly overpaying for that male work.

But BO said we could change our gender and the deep state will pay the tab....think I'll just be a count!

We need more MEN in HR. It's mostly women in HR and they control which applicants are interviewed; for the most part.
I seriously feel like men are at a disadvantage in the job market now.
But yeah... oppression of women and that wage gap.

I understand them wanting equality, but just hiring women because they're woman (may or not be qualified) seems counter intuitive to the way business should work.
Common sense never has been a strong point of the SJW's.

There are not 20000 stem women available for them to hire
grandstanding left wing horse shite
How did large corporations become invested with so many cya PC cocksuckers?
I guess leftists eventually infest any large bureaucracy.

You think they are doing that without the data to support it?
Data to support what exactly? That women are better employees? Then shite hire more women than men. Take the most qualified for every position, setting #s on how many qualified per category is discrimination.
I don't know the numbers but by this logic if 2x as many men apply then 2x as many men are denied, and vice versa. Thus limiting your chances of being hired by factors outside of your control, you know, the definition of discrimination. Equal results =\= equal opportunity.
This is a PR move involving entry level employees, plain and simple. And is a trend that would effect the livelyhood of graduates of a certain gender in that field. Unless the graduation ratio is exactly 1:1 male to female.
If workplace diversity was truly more important than individual qualifications you'd think some franchise would attempt it in the uber competitive professional sports markets, where wins and losses show plain as day annually.

Shorting GE now, thanks for the heads-up

Diverse teams do better than non diverse teams, but you should still hire the best person

One of my female sales reps is my top producer, I wish I had 10 more like her. My other 2 female sales reps are decent at sales, but a Goddamn nightmare to manage.
Get a group of women working together, drama ensues, 100% of the time.

Link to study proving this?
Because data shows the opposite.

Reminds me of the old SNL skit, "why can't I" "because you're a girl and this is science."
What's the gender breakdown of people that go into STEM fields? 3 to 1 male? GE will have to ship in foreigners to meet this stupid arse quota.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Fact: There are a lot more men in the tech field than women. If GE does get a 50:50 ratio they will end up fricking themselves.
As a side note I have a friend on FB who is an outspoken liberal who does work for GE. I'm interested to see his reaction to this.

I'm all for hiring more women in introductory tech jobs. My wife is a tech person, and specifically, a senior cloud engineering architect for large cap business. She constantly bemoans the fact that there are so few women in tech.

Equal Workforce Development Opportunities. The new rule makes clear that covered employers may not set requirements for jobs or training that are based on an applicant’s or employee’s sex unless the contractor can demonstrate that such requirements are a bona fide occupational qualification.

A private, successful company doing something that will increase their bottom line?
You have no idea if this or any other directional change GE is considering will increase their bottom line. No idea whatsoever.
Neither does Jeffrey Immelt

That is because if you evaluate the largest number of people equally and pick the best you will end up with the best people.
That means you consider everybody because that is the largest pool possible. When it ends up being more diverse that is a byproduct.
If one group is full of people demonstrably less qualified and you hire some of those just to be more "diverse" that isn't going to make your team better.

No it won't. It will actually do the exact opposite of that.
