what

how can taking NN away, help new start up ISPs or other ISPs enter a new market when the local gov't has been paid off by an ISP? My town is a perfect example. Our only option for high speed internet is Cable One.

In that situation it is difficult....but in a town like Crowley that has no underhanded agreement with some carrier the lack of NN would allow startups to do things with their service that would put them in a unique position to compete for customers that are currently using Cox. This in turn offsets some of the high up front startup costs.

Like I said in order to solve competition issues you have to deregulate at every level.

You are talking about a rare case of free market ISP in a town being able to happen.

Most of us do not have that choice.

I understand that.....but NN is certainly not a fix to yours or millions of other people ISP competition problem. It is like a pain killer for that problem that you will get addicted to with no rehab in site.

The potential is there depending on how ape shite they go after net neutrality.

Some good advice to them would be that its not a hill that they want to die on considering that it has broad bipartisan support.

Since I have to go through this every fricking time, here goes nothing.

ISP have a created a patchwork of state and local laws which distort and destroy the free market for internet service. These big government policies at the state and local level have hugely benefited the ISPs at the cost of the customer.

Net neutrality is a regulation, which is generally a bad thing is not necessarily bad where there is no free market to destroy in the first place.

This is worth repeating.

Repealing net neutrality and leaving the monopolies in place at the local and state levels is beyond retarded.

Net neutrality was a reaction to corruption at the state and local levels being bought off by big telecoms.

The GOP needs to leave net neutrality the frick alone.

It's a sad day in American when the federal government not getting between a company and their customers is considered interfering.

You people truly have brain disorders.

ISP's are natural monopolies -- they need regulation. Comcast, for instance, is one of the greediest most corrupt companies in human history. They will do anything to make an extra buck and they know their customers are forced to take it in the arse.

You'll be pissed when you have to pay more just to access your favorite stock/trade site.

Yeah but it will be easier and smoother to access the site that partners with your local ISP.

For streaming, some ISPs will partner with some sites and just give gimped access at shite speeds to sites that partner with other ISPs.

The US internet infrastructure is embarrassingly poor and behind the times. Sad for a country that is supposed to lead the way when it comes to tech.

Forget the countries you expect to have better, cheaper, faster Internet than the US like Japan. We have internet access worse than essentially all major European countries: Global ISP Speed Index
