That's not true. The Treaty of Brussels and blockade of Berlin by the Soviets led to the idea of a common defense pact, not the threat of German invasion.
The Soviets asked to join in 1954, but were rebuffed because it was thought their goal was to undermine the organization. West Germany joined in 1955, as they had needed manpower to resist a Soviet invasion.

It's amazing how European countries are basically allowed to cheat on their other expenses like healthcare, infrastructure, energy and whatnot when we help pay for their defense expenses.

Germany allows those brown people in because they will eventually be working in low wage jobs that a shrinking native German population can afford not to work in. Their is no compassion involved outside of the people....the government, ran by the aristocracy the same as ours, is bringing in workers.
Will those workers change the culture in Germany? When has imported cheap labor not done so?

Jumping Christ almighty....The EU is a result of US Military spending and its purpose is the same as all US military spending...to provide safe markets for the goods and services of the global aristocracy....Europe is very volatile....without the stablelization of the globe by the US Military...not just in NATO spending but the whole picture...Europe may not be in a position to trade and that would mean that the wealthy around the world would have to spend money on wars and shite instead of personal wealth....
Trump is spot on with this....but it ain't just NATO and he can hand out invoices left and right when he increases military spending it sends the message that the US is going to increase its role in policing the world and Germany and the rest will spend even less.
It takes X amount of money to secure the world in its present state.....you and I pay for almost the majority of that cost....we are going to pay for more of it....and the rest of the world is going to have more resources available to use on other issues.

I could be wrong, because it is hard to tell what happened and what did not....but I don't think he refused to shake her hand. I think he just neglected to offer his hand to he as is customary. He said that it was not meant as a slight, that they had been talking beofre hand and that it just didn't occur to him to shake her hand for the photo ops pictures.
AGAIN I might be wrong.

I was just commenting on your statement that you hadn't heard he refused. The report is that photographers wanted a photo of the two leaders shaking hands, Merkel asked if he wanted to shake hands and there was no response from Trump...kind of awkward, to say the least. The admins spin was that it was loud in the room and Trump did not hear the requests...could be true, we will never know.

I thought Trump's treatment of Merkle was an embarrassment. They is a lot to criticize Merkle about but being out in front rude to her, the leader of Germany, was just wrong.
