EU's creation was an American-led project, behind the scenes.
One currency and one economy in Europe was great and served our interests when they were war torn, Germany was divided and crippled, and we needed our interests united against the only threat at the time, the Soviets.
Times have changed. The EU we created is now being used by an economically strong and united Germany to gain economic power and geopolitical influence over Europe (while we 'defend' them with our military resources). They've made France their bitch in the EU. More folks are trading oil with Euros. Now they are weaponizing empathy within the media to try and win the immigration/open borders battle. Long term, it is clear as day they are a threat to the USD and our interests.
If there was ever a time to crush the Euro and go back to 25 different currencies and economies in Europe, now would be that time.

Germany has said it would meet those obligations.
Trump's making that harder. He basically gives the German left support from the German public- now they can hamstring Merkel on this to "stick it to Trump".

You aren't too bright, are you? We didn't create, nor are we a part of, the EU.

We spend too much on defense.
But if you want to spend less on NATO or stop bombing brown people you're stupid and un-American!

So you guys think, after we saved Europe and the world from destruction not once but twice, and after we spent our resources rebuilding and reuniting all of Europe after the war, the Europeans were actually captains of their own ship in regards to the EU? During the Cold War?
We were absolutely pulling the strings in the early days of the EU over there, and for good reason.

Treating NATO like a protection racket is not a good look.

How has he made that harder? by calling them on it? they have been falling behind for years....probably decades. You think they have any intention to catch up?
Do you have any idea what German's budget is for a year?
There country's entire budget for 2005 was 254,300,000.00. They owe 300 Billion dollars to the UN alone and you think they are going to pay up?

Hopefully not. Meeting the 2% GDP marker is already agreed upon at the Wales Summit and what Trump says and does should be irrelevant to that spending requirement.
That said, the 2% GDP requirement refers only to indirect funding, while in terms of direct funding, Germany offers 14% of NATO's budget, with the US offering 22%.

You couldn't do any worse than what we have had....however, I think your claim of 20 years is a short. WAY short.

In fairness, that is essentially what it was intended for. After WWII they thought if the major nations of the world were to band together, there would be less chances of a Germany invading other countries again.
It has evolved and changed since then, but it is basically still used as a bully stick, so to speak.

The libtards on this board need to get this straight. They hate the amount that we spend on defense every year, but the majority of that is to maintain overseas obligations for allies who are not contributing anything to their own defense. The fact that we are essentially footing the military bill for all of Western Europe is the only thing that allows them to have their cushy socialist welfare states. We could cut our military spending and half and have the strongest military in the history of the world if we weren't having to fund so much of Western Europe's bill

No they haven't. The Wales Summit in 2014 already addressed this. Most of the countries who cut spending in their military were doing it in response to the 2008 crisis.
Germany already pays for 14% of NATO's direct budget. The 2% spending requirement refers to indirect budget.
The Wales Summit stated that countries had a decade to get into line with the 2% spending and Germany already said they would meet that requirement.

Wut?....NATO was formed for the purpose of providing a defense umbrella when the Soviet army occupied eastern Europe. It was formed principally as a defense against the Soviet Union

Huge blow to democracy that couldn't have been achieved without the ignorant cooperation of Trumpettes.

Pushing hard for that dumbest poster on the board title. You've got my vote.
