You have no idea how many times a cop has passed you and ignored you in a situation he would not have ignored a minority, you have no idea how many yeses you've gotten that would have been no's had you been a minority, you have no idea how many times the lack of a stereotype being applied to you opened doors, etc.

And the vice versa is true for the minority (i.e. "You have no idea if that cop would have passed on by if you were white, you have no idea if that no would've been a yes if you were white, etc. etc.")

Again, how do blacks have this perception yet white's can not?

Edit: what upgrayedd said.

Right, exactly. You're arguments are not fact based but instead based on your feelings.

That's the problem with this notion. It's based on intangibles, assumptions (unfounded ones at that) and emotion.

Isn't everything in this thread based on intangibles, assumptions, and emotion?

Except that most minorities in this country have at one time or another experienced something that made them take notice of situations that the majority takes for granted.

I have no clue how many doors were open or closed for me based on my whiteness, but many minorities know exactly when a door has been closed because of their race.

Yes, because the discussion is based on "white privilege" which is based what you just mentioned. Thanks.

Now this isnt true at all. Not only can countless examples from just recent history be rattled off, Ive personally witnessed the effects of it in the real world.

Please stop patting us on the heads with WONDERFUL intentions and telling us how unreasonable it is that you get to be so lucky.

Please.

It is not helping and it is pretty annoying to those that simply want to get on with it. Yes, it can be annoying to be treated in a SUB-STANDARD way. But, there is no value in whimpering along with us by emitting ululant cries of 'we have it so undeservedly well'

the soft bigotry of low expectations does not ONLY apply to test scores, etc. It means thinking we can't express dissatisfaction about being poorly treated without demanding an apology for you being PROPERLY treated.

I love you my friend. But, I despise the "we have it so much better that we simply MUST acknowledge it." Puh-LEEZE. Just live your life and demand that you be treated correctly. Treat others correctly in return. That is enough.

Many are doors opened to minorities simply because of the race. FACT

And I've personally witnessed how I've never received any privilege from being white. And that's not even getting into whites being discriminated against due to affirmative action.

Im not trying to pat anyone on the head, and Ive stated that none of this is an excuse for minorities to play the victim card at every turn. Im simply conveying my view of the world based on personal experience, observation and understanding of the culture at hand and in the past. Thats all.

Where did I say I have it undeservedly well? When I do nothing wrong, I deserve to be treated as if I did nothing wrong. Ive, at this point in my life, largely gotten exactly what Ive deserved for my actions and inactions.

This isnt about me being treated better than I deserve.

Im sorry if it came off that way. Im not telling minorities how to react or what they should feel.

Again, I dont think Im treated undeservedly well.

We're talking past each other, you have an inherently different idea of what Im saying than that which Im actually trying to convey. Its pointless to keep at it.

Well, you're doing it whether you know it or not. Much like how you don't know how well you're being treated through your white privilege.

I'm kidding...

Then, we agree. The term "White Privilege" is sophomoric and annoying. It should be stricken from the collective consciousness and never again uttered.

There is Correctly Treated.

and Incorrectly Treated.

I hope you know that while we disagreed (up until I TOTALLY convinced you ) that I appreciate you as an excellent poster

The whole subject is pointless because it's political. People will see and define it the way they want to, based on their own biases.

No. You are accepting bullshite labels.

The situation you described is not "White Privilege". It is simply....being.

Now, were I stopped at that same hotel (assuming I am properly dressed and comporting myself properly) it is an affront upon me. The white dude ahead of me had no 'privilege'. I was treated poorly.

I am not sure I have a right to take a shite in any hotel (that I am not staying at) in the world. Or that I have a right to break the law (marijuana possession) and get away with it.

I think we are closer in agreement than what you think, you are just arguing over semantics and that isn't particularly productive. of course, this board is anti productive.
