I don't know how you guys argue either side passionately when we have a socialized education system on one hand and an entitlement program on the other. It's government creating a problem and then creating another layer as a solution.

You'd think a lawyer would have better things to do than trolling a message board. Actually, it is a certainty that a lawyer would have better things to do. Money stolen by the government from your paycheck, and from your employers account, when it is worth whatever the current rate of inflation says it is worth, and then given back to you 40 years later when those same dollars can only be worth much less than when they were stolen from you, is not an entitlement. It is a form of slavery, forcing you to loan the government money with which to operate.

I anticipate the cost of private schools will increase by the average “scholarship” amount by the second year. Privatizing public services has never ever saved money. It always ends up costing taxpayers much more than predicted.

It’s not an entitlement program to the beneficiaries.. it’s a a forced retirement system that seeks to balance both ends of the income spectrum by flattening the distributions based on amounts paid into the spectrum

So the grants are available to everyone, and both of my children attend private school. I'm not so sure I'm even going to apply for this grant. I would much rather it go to someone that really needs it. I honestly would rather it be merit based and based on need. I.E. lil' Demarcus holding down a 4.0 at craptown middle school, and looks to have a bright future, but his mom can't afford to send him to a better school.

I can name one right within this category that’s cheaper when pulled out from the public sphere… charter schools are cheaper and the data coming in continues to suggest better on all fronts

I'm sure that would help average test scores.
Public schools could also deny handicap people. A blind student can run about $100k per year to instruct. That's money that can provide better resources to the student body as a whole.
Let's make public schools competitive again.
Or we could go the other way. Force private schools to accept everyone. Including students with severe mobility and mental handicaps.
Make private schools look more like public schools.

Some, yes. Like they once did. Suspend/expel unruly kids, and by 10th grade put many in vocational training instead of high school.
Public schools are little more than job creators in many places, with "butts in seat" far more important than a competent classroom.
Public schools are all about funding.
