I am not sure tariffs will bring jobs BACK, but it might stop the few we have left from leaving.

I understand, but again I see the problem is Over-regulation and over-taxing.

I think we should focus on correcting this first before we start levying tariffs and increasing cost even more.

We need to remove the hurdles we have placed in front of manufacturers 1st before we start trying to fixing the cost through government intervention.

None of you seem to understand that the tariff would only apply to companies leaving here putting our people out of work and taking advantage of near slave wages overseas. It is not a tariff on all incoming trade.

Go ahead, and while you are there sell your products to them, because we will treat you like your host country treats us as far as markets are concerned.

And you have the option not to buy that product but from their competitors. The tariff will be selective and punitive, not applying to everyone.

You lost. Deal with it. Trump told us all what he would do and your way is proven not to work. Just look at the mess we are in now.

What is my way? Selectively putting tarrifs on certain companies is a terrible idea, regardless of my way. I don't think any economists--even those that support tarrifs--would argue that it's a good idea.

What mess, the entitlement society aside?

They are a record number of job opening going unfilled. While it would be good to increase our GDP and wages, these issues don't constitute a mess, expecially as it relates to jobs.

I can say with certainty that where we are now is unacceptable. Massive trade deficits, factories shuttered and good jobs gone. All facts,

The so called experts have made a huge mess of our economy.

Trump was elected to do this, and I say give it a try it can't make things much worse.

Manufacturing productivity at record highs, and finding upwards, despite fewer jobs. Fact.

Manufacturing jobs being increasingly replaced by technology (see above fact). Fact.

Increasing costs on the producers usually increased costs on the consumers, regardless of their employment. Fact.

But hey focus on jobs in a job-dying industry, while likely increasing the cost on the consumers, and if that 5 million jobs continue to go unfilled. Really shows that you care about jobs.

Will be as effective as putting out a fire with gasoline.

As you impose tariffs, you increase costs of goods, which will influence other manufacturers to move, then you will call for more tariffs...a never ending cycle of failure.

Its like increasing taxes to get rid of poverty....its a dog chasing a tail that it will never catch.

What I said was that the cost of Tariffs is carried by the consumer in all cases. I didn't say anything about Trump's moronic threats to American corporations.

Why do you like to pay more for goods?

The disturbing part is that this seems to be a major reason for the argument for many posters (can't get worse), without any consideration about the realities of economics and society in general.

And even if if he decides to pay more for goods, what if he offsets that by paying less for something else. Does he not care about those jobs?

This is a classic case of government thinking it knows what's best for the economy and being 50 years behind the cutting edge.

Trump is clueless on this. I don't understand this fascination with wanting to regress the manufacturing industry and the jobs market to the 1950s.
