It's a little of a head scratcher but I don't know enough to pass judgement. Based on his business experience it'll be good economically but I'm wondering if he lacks diplomacy?

science fiction writers with this as their theses could not be published.

Jesus, the oil guy is representing the USA's interests, or those of the World Trade Org?

"which one are we, dad"?

fox guarding the hen house

This is so weird. I can't wait to see what this guy says about Nigeria.
the oil is in the south and the most people are in the north. the tribe of the most people elects the president and most of the legislature.
The more populous northern tribe is allocating the income from a deal selling Nigerian Oil to Shell. The southern tribe wants more and is doing guerrilla warfare.
The World Trade Org could take a stand and embargo Nigeria until they agree to split the income with the tribe on whose land the resource is located.

Don't know much about him, but if it triggers the left, it's more than likely a very good pick.

That would hurt the poor of Nigeria much more than it would its powers that be. Kind of how sanctions turn out every time.

Remember our former SoS bragging about the hundreds of thousands of dying Iraqi children?

maybe so, but in a parallel universe Trump just nominated the President/COO of Goldman, Gary Cohn. to some high economic office.

Putin's friend. Awful pick.

I don't necessarily care about the Russia ties UNLESS that was a factor for Trump.

In other words, I'm not against the SOS having a friendly relationship with Putin. I'm totally against the President choosing the SOS in significant part BECAUSE he has a relationship with a massively corrupt authoritarian leader.

Good call. In fact, I think anyone investing in energy companies is about to make some sweet, sweet dividends in the next 8 years.

LMFAO if you really believe that. More than likely Exxon and Chevron slash dividends soon. Do you realize how dividends are paid? They are typically pegged to earnings. So far this year exxon has reported 3 quarters .43, .41, and .63 of earnings. Right now the dividend is .75 thats over a 100% payout ratio. That is not sustainable unless earnings realllllllly pick up. I dont see that happening. The company is trading at tech stock valuations right now earnings just aren't there. Exxon has an incredible dividend history, but history has no bearing on the future and they cannot keep paying this dividend from reserves forever. Eventually it will have to come from earnings and if things dont pick up quickly you're going to see a dividend cut, mark my words.

Tillerson is a member of the oil cartel. Does the US really want someone that deeply involved to be Sec of State? I mean, Hillary was a whore for their interests, but he IS their interests.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is called neanderthal isolationist foreign policy.

Notice that it does not resemble Ron or Rand Paul foreign policy.

Haha this is isolationism to you?

You know I respect your viewpoints a lot, but if you think isolationist foreign policy is a good way to define "I don't want our leaders emphasizing chumminess with bad state actors" I'll just have to laugh this absurdity off.

A Sec of the Treasury nominee with a career spent at the highest levels of banking, and finance, much of which involved interfacing with world governments concerning economics, you are right what the hell was Trump thinking?
