Really stupid question, but how long would they have to filibuster to block the nomination?

Indefinitely. Basically they can filibuster anytime his confimation vote is brought to the floor. A cloture vote can be called to end it, but that requires 60 votes(or it maybe 2/3 for Supreme Court nominees). That's where the nuclear option comes in. It changes the rules to just a simple majority to end debate/filibuster.

ETA: I think that's right. Someone more knowledgeable feel free to correct me.

There is scuttlebutt that Republicans don't have the votes for the nuclear option right now. Not sure if that is true, but it makes a little more sense that Dems would filibuster it if it is.

People are misreading the situation based on last Friday. Decision Desk is usually solid on numbers and they put out an update this evening saying the Repubs have 50 or 51 votes.

And where did you even get this Info from?

Some jackoff on C-Span earlier today. Didn't get his name, or his credentials. He said a handful of R's were very skittish over invoking the nuclear option for SC seats.

Do you support democrats on their plans to filibuster a conservative replacing a conservative instead of saving it for the RBG/Breyer fight where it would be much more meaningful?

If the GOP doesn't go nuclear over Gorsuch, they should all be fricking shot.

The R's were put there for SC justices, repeal/replace, immigration and tax reform. Act like you are in power and at least show some leadership by getting the easy shite done. If they can't ultimately get this one done (delivering Gorsuch) via nuclear option they are in for a backlash.

Say what you want about the sorry dems, but when they are in power it's like a damn tiger by the tail.

I'm pretty torn over it, to be honest. I think Gorsuch is more than qualified, and a suitable replacement for Scalia. But I don't really have a problem with Dems playing politics with it since Republicans did the same thing over Garland, who was also more than qualified. It's a stupid precedent, but that's where we are.

As to which time to do it. I guess just go ahead and get it out of the way. Can't see into the future to see if the option is still on the table when the next vacancy comes open.

He's looking rough in that picture

Last summer I was taking the late Friday afternoon flight from DCA to MCO and so was Nelson. He was in casual clothes and standing off to the side to not attract attention but I went over and introduced myself - had a decent conversation prior to boarding (asked about his Shuttle flight - I watched the launch from KSC). But to your point, he has had his face stretched to the point where he is constantly "smiling" like the Joker - sort of creepy and his hair color is unnatural looking. If he filibusters, then maybe he is retiring - certainly doesn't need the money.

I would be unsurprised if that happened. McCain would flip, at least 2 more I can think of who would "like to preserve the integrity of the Senate" and vote against the Nuke option.

If that happens Trump will go to war and start campaigning against every RINO in Congress.

As he should.

Dude, if democrats force the nuclear option and RBG dies under a republican POTUS thereafter, it will be one of the most retarded and counter productive political ploys in american history.

Why risk being completely powerless in that moment for a revenge play which are usually shortsighted in politics btw?

I get democrats are angry over Garland but they have to get over it and adjust to the reality of the current situation and plan accordingly.

you are misinformed. they have no intention of dying.

their supporters know about Merrick.

as long as they postpone it, its postponed.

meanwhile, Spicer says Trump is ready to work with the moderate Dems to craft a bill for health care.
The far right has been marginalized.

Yeah, I have no idea why the Dems want to die on this mountain. Gorsuch is a very fair choice, they should take it and live to fight another day.

But they are Dems, if they force the GOP to nuclear I hope Mike Lee replaces RBG.

Supposedly, McCain is in support of using any means necessary to seat Gorsuch. This is one issue that the Repubs have a united front on.

Did the Republicans play politics over Sotomayor and Kagan?

Get a "Democrat" to send Jew Schumer and money-changer Nelson a Bible to read during their filibuster, and watch them squirm and ignore it so as to not "offend" anyone.
