Statistics ....A survey of scientists who are members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, conducted by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press in May and June 2009, finds that members of this group are, on the whole, much less religious than the general public.1 Indeed, the survey shows that scientists are roughly half as likely as the general public to believe in God or a higher power. According to the poll, just over half of scientists (51%) believe in some form of deity or higher power; specifically, 33% of scientists say they believe in God, while 18% believe in a universal spirit or higher power.
Not that it matters seeing as plenty of very smart and highly regarded scientific individuals believe in God and even participate in organized religion, but this is misleading. This study factored in everyone from astrophysicists and evolutionary biologists to sociologists and archeologists.
When the core science populations (biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics) are polled, the number who believe in God drops to about 20% and those who believe in a specific religious doctrine is less than 10%. About 35% claim spirituality of some sort.

Lawsuits are filed constantly and threats made to file them. Why is the Establishment Clause interpreted the way it is? Because of a suit. Atheists want Freedom FROM Religion. It is like you are forbidden in a public place to mention God, they might be offended.
Too bad. Now I live in Mobile so I know something about this situation. I can assure you that no churches, pastors , nor the vast majority of citizens here have any intention of harming the lady in question. You gutless Atheists should get on your knees and literally thank God that you live in the USA. We Baptists are not Muslims, and do not go around issuing fatwas or beheading people that will not convert.
Some nut did this. There are crazies of every religion and belief. The lady has every right to appear and express her opinion. And the rest of us have the right to disagree with it and IMO put the words in the courthouse.

Stupid being stupid.
Most atheist identify as agnostic athiests which means that they fully admit that they don't know.
I feel bad for you. You're just an a-hole.

And in this country I am free to be an a-hole. If you REALLY want to see a good example of one, find yourself a mirror.
I pity you.

Are atheists traveling to third-world countries in an effort to recruit more followers? Are they going door-to-door in the US?

Good to see the love of Christ flowing through you.

Jesus had a temper. Ask the money changers in the Temple. If you boys dish it out, you will get it back.

No they are too busy worrying about school kids reading a Bible or Nativity scenes, huge issues like that. If someone comes to your door, you can close it. If someone wishes to talk to you about Jesus, you can decline.
But that isn't the case when some teacher snatches a Bible away from a student. Or when some administration attempts to censor a Valedictorian's speech. Or when some hack judge misinterprets the so called Establishment Clause.

You really don't see the hypocrisy here?

I guess that's similar to Christians being completely obsessed with what two gay men happen to do in the privacy of their own home. Or what a rape victim chooses to do with her "gift from God."
Posted on 8/19/14 at 7:43 am to TigerBait1127
You can't understand the point can you? When a Christian preaches the Gospel he is not using the State to force you to listen. If there is an occasional reference on a wall or a prayer no one forces you to participate or read an inscription.
Censoring a student's speech or forcing a Nativity scene to be taken down IS using the State to prohibit the free exercise thereof. The line in the so called Establishment Clause that is always omitted.

Yeah, I've noticed an uptick in the number of Christians forcing gay folks to "come out" on national TV & tell us about stuff that should remain private

You called ME PERSONALLY an a-hole. I didn't see any reference in there to you personally. You lose.

I don't see Christians trying to personally destroy any gay people either. Demanding they be fired and their TV show removed from the air.

Calling an entire, diverse group of people stupid is clearly the way of Jesus.

Not using the state but then using the state. I could not care less about the In God We Trust crap. I was just reading the thread and noticed you were a tool.
