I find it offensive, especially given the fact its not in the original wording.

So if it was in the original wording, it wouldn't offend you??

It would be less offensive. That it was changed basically because atheists are stereotyped as commies is offensive.

I am also offended by phony appeals to tradition.

What an exceptional strawman. How long did it take you to build that?

I feel bad for Atheists. People that are stupid and try to force the rest of us to accommodate their stupidity.

Let me preach on it. They are absolutely convinced that their ideas are right, no disputing it or debate allowed. And they are constantly filing suits to attempt to compel the rest of us to conform to their viewpoint.

Stupid being stupid.

Has nothing to do with this particular breach of the Constitution, and could easily be said about the religious.

Most scientists are atheists fwiw

A famous roman orator sums it up pretty well

"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful." -Cicero

With what we know about the universe, at least it's more plausible than the magician carpenter theory (no offense). Please provide a link to these lawsuits you speak of.

Please provide us with a link to your claim that most scientists are atheists. Not most vocal left wing scientists, most scientists like you claimed.....

I don't have to look at all. People like you spew offensive hate speech in almost every statement you make. Like the above.

It has nothing to do with belief. Its factually true. Read the Constitution. Tell me where it says this is a Christian nation.

Not sure what bizarre correlation you are attempting to establish, but I do not watch Bill O'Reilly or Fox News. So (if you don't mind), I am going to put you down as "fail" for that retort.

I shouldn't waste my time providing you with links because you never provide links for anything you say even when someone asks. You just start threads about " my son thinks god's an atheist durrr "

Only 7 percent of members of the American National Academy of Sciences believed in God and only 3.3 percent believed in God in the UK’s Royal Society. Several Gallup poll studies of the general population have shown that those with higher IQ’s tend not to believe in God.

Statistics ....A survey of scientists who are members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, conducted by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press in May and June 2009, finds that members of this group are, on the whole, much less religious than the general public.1 Indeed, the survey shows that scientists are roughly half as likely as the general public to believe in God or a higher power. According to the poll, just over half of scientists (51%) believe in some form of deity or higher power; specifically, 33% of scientists say they believe in God, while 18% believe in a universal spirit or higher power.

I wonder what's going to happen to that 51% figure when European and Asian scientists are factored in.

Hint: it ain't rising.

Anyone who gets upset over "In God We Trust" is a fricktard of the highest order, and I say that as someone who no longer believes in God.

The vast majority of the country's population believes in some sort of deity and many who don't still believe in some sort of power or presence beyond this immediate reality. I see no issue with acknowledging the beliefs of the majority in a fashion such as that which doesn't infringe upon the right's of those who don't believe.

That being said, there is definitely still a stigma against people who do not believe in God here. They are often viewed as inherently immoral and untrustworthy, even by those who are only culturally religious. People like this dumb bitch certainly don't help, but then I don't hold all religious people responsible for the Westboro idiots or the scientology crooks or the Islamic Jihadists. The fact is that the overwhelming majority of atheists and agnostics are not the "angry atheist" vocal minority, just like most theists aren't standing on street corners telling people they are going to hell or strapping explosives to their chests.

Literally the EXACT same thing can be said of many theists.

The reality is that, deep down, nobody is 100% sure. Some are "more sure" than others, but nobody really knows for sure whether God or Gods exists or not. It is impossible to know such a thing with our current technology, knowledge base and understanding of reality.

Every single theist has laid awake at night wondering "what if I'm wrong", just as every atheist has. I find agnostic atheism to be the most logically consistent position, as it holds that our current fund of information renders the existence of a deity somewhat unlikely (and thus I personally do not believe in one at this time) but that the actual existence or lack thereof is truly unknowable with certainty.

I would argue that, on the whole, more nonbelievers leave the door open for a change of mind than believers. Most nonbelievers are not angry with religion, or at least it is not the reason they don't believe. Not believing in God because you are mad at him is really fricking stupid.
