I recently saw a car in which appeared to be brand new. On the back, it said Equus. Attached to the front hood was an emblem in which I haven't seen before. I thought it was some sort of elite brand like a Tesla.

Upon a quick google search, I found the nice looking vehicle to be a Hyundai Equus.

A fine looking vehicle indeed until I saw a couple of their specifics for a 2015.
MSRP - $61,500
MPG - 15/23

Now, I am most certainly not a "car guy". However, for a luxury vehicle, is this not absurd? That MPG rivals my old '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The price rivals a 2015 BMW 5 series. Why would someone purchase this vehicle?

They're nice. And Hyundai took their name off the vehicle to avoid people being like "Oh, it's a Hyundai"

Kia makes a nice luxury car now too. K900 or something like that.

No it's not. It's not a completely new car company.

And to the "cost rivals a 5 series" comment, I guess that doesn't matter when you're competing with the 7 series class

If you pay

MSRP - $61,500

for a car, then you probably don't care that it only gets

MPG - 15/23

Just because it's a Hyundai you expect it to be a POS? They're actually very nice. And the MPG isn't very different from most big V8 luxury cars.

Americans only give a shite about stats, and it's probably faster, in a straight line, than most 5 series offerings.

Hyundai cars have come a loooonnnnng way. The Sonata is very reliable and gets great mileage. Their biggest issue is still the stigma of the old Hyundai.

Not really. However, I assumed that if you were willing to pay that kind of cash for a luxury vehicle, one would gravitate towards the mainstream luxury vehicles.

Again though, you're comparing this car to a 5 series. When you correctly compare it to the 7 series, let me know the price difference.

i believe the Equs is trying to compete with the 7-series, S-Class, A8, etc.

Equus wins against a 7-series.. now i don't know who "carsort.com" is, but that's the comparison

$30k savings in price, too

Equus been around a long time. The rear is executive.

You can get rear seat that reclines, heated/cooled, massages and has refrigerator.
