If I lose my grandfathered unlimited plan with the old minutes with rollover plan I have (a scenario where the 2-year contract price is indisputably better than Next), then I would just switch to straight talk. LTE through AT&T towers, $45/month per line, unlimited talk, text, and 3GB of data before throttling.

When it came time to upgrade last year, I calculated it out over the course of two years. The Next ends up being $55 cheaper over that time-span...assuming I don't upgrade early. Not a huge savings, BUT at least I have the option to upgrade in a year if I choose to do so.

Considering the same if they knock my wife off her unlimited plan, but have you seen the throttled speed? It's just unbearably, laughably slow.

It's 56k, right? I can't imagine doing much with it. However, looking at my data usage history over the past 12 months, either me or my wife exceeded 3GB twice in that time, and only by 300-600MB. It would definitely suck during months like that though.

Cap should be 5GB if you have an LTE phone. But yeah the throttle is 0.5 Mbps which is basically 56k. I hit it every month because I'm too stubborn to download my podcasts on wifi.

I'm prolly gonna dump my daughter off my att plan and put her on a straight talk plan. She just cannot stop going over her data even when I make her pay for it. I even increased her to 3gb and she goes over that. It was cheaper to go up a gig than pay to cap it.

0.5 Mbps is about 500 kbps. 56k is more like 0.05 Mbps. The ST site says they throttle down to 64kbps after 3GB, which compared to LTE speeds around 10+ mbps is more than a 99% reduction in speed. I wouldn't call that "throttling" so much as running into a brick wall.

You aren't selling it for the same cost though since the average 2 year plan cost $25 more per month per phone than the Next plan. That's on top of the $199 you put down.

Considering I have unlimited data, my plan is much better especially if I'm on a family plan with 4. All of us have unlimited data.

I've been paying extra to keep my unlimited plan with verizon. It's not about what I'm using right now. It's the unknown about what I'll be using in the future. I could add my line to a shared plan with the other 2 lines on my account, but don't want to lose the unlimited data.

Its still unlimited even if it is throttled.

What you should be laughing at it anyone that actually believes ATT is doing this because it is better for the customer.

Do you really believe they think of us? Somewhere we will get screwed like always.

For some NEXT is better but for my family it would be worse. We have unlimited data and upgrade every 2 years. I will end up paying a fortune in data overages because I am on the road all day and use my phone for work to get directions to locations and other work related searches.
It also helps to curb Borden while waiting to load/unload.

So no next is not better at least jot for everyone. Now we will be stuck in a one size fits all plan that doesn't actually fit all

While it may be slower. I never have to worry about going over or be like those people who can't do anything on their phone who needs WiFi because they may go over and pay extra cost

So, Next is actually better for the consumer? I've never paid attention to the numbers as I've never felt, in the past, that I had any real choice.

It's definitely better if you go over 10gb in your family

And unlimited data is myth

Just throwing my $0.02

When I went to the Apple Store, the sales person pulled out his calculator and compared the price for NEXT versus buying the phone out right and signing up for service. There was no difference .

Have you looked into how much data you use per month? It may not be as much as you think.

However, if ATT is truly getting rid of the two-year contract and will, basically, force everyone that has unlimited to relinquish that, then yes, some people will be paying more. NEXT isn't going to be cheaper or better for everyone.

So with Next, how do phone upgrades work. I just upgrade whenever i want? How does that effect your bill?

Checked it both ways with a close friend that works ATT and I am defiantly over.

The only difference is NEXT plan fits 95% of the average consumer family who can't walk in and drop 800 bucks on a phone. But yes, no real price advantage. Pay for phone outright or over 20 months. Plan price stays same.
