OKC:
Easy win and opponent as an underdog must lose

Pelicans: must win as an underdog or opponent loses as a big upset

Honestly it's pretty close. I think this favors OKC 55-60% of the time though.

I'm not sure about that.

The Pelicans just need one of two things to happen (win or Thunder loss), Thunder need two things to happen. Yeah, the opponents are night-and-day, but I think in these situations, you always want to be the team that controls their own destiny.

ETA: And yeah, the Spurs are playing their best ball of the year right now, but they are hardly unbeatable. In fact, we're an Asik tip-in away from coming into this game being 3-0 agains them.

Has to be OKC. NBA has already shown that they will pull favors to keep Westbrook and his team alive. Analysts are already assuming we lose to Spurs. Won't be surprised if there are is questionable officiating. Just means we have to win the whole damn thing.

Was asking myself this same question earlier.

I think both teams should be pretty happy. Its 51-49 to pels just because we control our own destiny.

Pels. Just take care of business and you are in. Thunder need two things to happen for them to make it in. I'll take 1 over 2 anyday.

You always want to be in the driver's seat no matter what. There's always the possibility of upsets no matter how bad the opponents can be. Their shots start dropping and that's a ball game.

Pelicans, because even if the Thunder win, they'll still be in Oklahoma City.

I still prefer our spot. It only requires us winning or the thunder screwing up. The thunder have to win their game and they have to cross their fingers and hope we lose at home against a team we should be 3-0 against. The numbers favor us, we're just a small favorite now

If I were a player, I'd definitely say Pels, I control my own destiny, win and in.

As a fan, I'm going to stick with the numbers...the outcome may be different, but i'll take the better chance of making it, and that's OKC's position.

I believe it's actually 60/40 OKC.

Why would you think that Minny would beat OKC?

If Pops isn't sitting his guys, we will either earn our way in or blame Monty for losing to the Knicks. Both are 50/50 to me.

What odds do you give the Thunder at beating the Wolves? 80%?

What odds do you give the Spurs at beating the Pelicans? 60%?

The Thunder need both of those results to happen, so you multiply the odds and get that they have a 48% chance of making the playoffs. Based on those percentages above, we're a slight favorite to take the last spot.

Math time

Assumptions:
OKC 80% chance to win
Pels 40% chance to win

OKC = .8x.6 = 48%
Pels = .6x.2 + .4x.8 + .4x.2 = 52%

Slight pels favor.

You can throw those games out the window. They were nowhere near as good in those previous 3 games as they have been since Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker got healthy. They are the best team in the NBA right now, playing like the NBA champion Spurs of last year.

Homecourt is the only reason I think we have a chance.

Not sure about individal games, but Basketball Reference has it at 64% OKC.

It's probably something in the realm of 90% for OKC and 70% for SA, though I'm completely guessing on that part.

Oh definitely. I think this is a good way to kinda prove it, based on the OP of which spot do you prefer.

Let's say, hypothetically, there was 1 game left and it was @ San Antonio. If the question is, would you rather us be playing SA for the last spot, or OKC be playing SA and needing an OKC loss for the last spot, which spot do you prefer? That's a no brainer, I want OKC playing @ SA.
