the food prices are not that outrageous if the food is legit

3/4 of that is from overpriced alcohol

although all the reviews on Yelp and Urbanspoon say this place sucks

That someone would spend $5000/bottle for champagne. Also applying 20% gratuity on a $5k bottle of champagne. That server made off like a bandit.

The people that went there presumably knew what the prices were and still paid it. That's on them.

New York is expensive as frick to eat out in, but I went to some damn good places and didn't come close to paying anything outrageous. They did this to themselves.

They can afford it - they own Chelsea football club.

Some of the prices are pretty damn high, even for NYC. You'd have to be a bit of a dunce to eat there.

7 popped corks = $7000 tip. That's the most absurd thing on that receipt, even more than spending $5k on one bottle of champagne.

Total sum came to $47,000 in just 1hr and 18minutes. Although the bill included a 20% tip, they generously gave their waiter another $5,000 in cash.

That is a lot of booze for 5 people, assuming pregnant chick abstained, to drink in an hour and 18 minutes.

That place is most assuredly not about the food.

This place is a quintessential upper east side 'ladies who lunch' type of place. Nobody who cares about food goes there. Or money apparently.
