I went to several proms and homecoming dances.
I only had to rent my tux and pay for dinner. Which was usually 50 bucks or so.
But I was the yard mowing king, and had that kind of crazy cash!

One year we went to Cuco's and filled up on the free nachos then bailed.

I think I spent like $150 on prom...it wasn't that big of a deal. Spending over $300 is ridiculous...

Jr year pops gave me 75 bucks. That's dinner, pictures, 6er of Zima, Jolly Ranchers, whole 9 yards. We all get seated at Red Lobster by the mall, and she proceeds to order the menu. Or a good portion of it. Long story short we skipped the pictures. Good times.

I guess you're right. When you come from nothing you have nothing to lose.

to spend $1,393 for the prom

Granted my prom days were a long time ago but how is this even possible?

Are helicopter tours of the city expected these days?

It blows my mind when I see a $40k vehicle parked in front of a shotgun house. Different priorities I guess.

I guess it depends on where you are, if you would have said trailer I would have agreed 100%, but there are some pretty expensive shotguns here in New Orleans.

Good point. I'm not talking about shotgun houses on prime real estate.

Yep. When I was teaching there were kids in the free/reduced lunch program who had a more recent iPhone than I had at the time and easily spent this much on prom.

I remember getting my very first credit card like 3 weeks before my senior prom. Baaaaaaaaaaddddd move

For real though, I think I spent less than $200 for dress/shoes/hair/accessories.

The amount of money wasted on kids in order to show off on Facebook is completely off the charts.

I learned several months ago it is now common for guys to have very elaborate plans to ask a girl to prom - like similar to try hard guys that cook up those elaborate schemes to ask a girl to marry them.

I just asked in between class one day
