I'm a Derm PA
Thats exactly what my sis is. I personally think she has the best job of anyone I know when balancing pay and lifestlye
It has it's pros and cons; the pros far outweigh any cons, especially in the private sector. But as far as medical jobs go, it is awesome, hence why I haven't switched fields in 7 years and don't plan to anytime soon.
What city does she work in?

i have been planning on med school for a while, but honestly I just don't know that it's worth it. the stress, responsibility, etc. I am eyeing pa schools now.
i go to school in Texas, but am from Louisiana and my entire family is in Louisiana. i have a 3.52 in electrical engineering and have taken all the premed requirements. I also have about 2000 hours of scribe work in the er.
anyone know if i have a decent shot at pa programs in la?

nurse, I can understand regular drug testing, but did they also test you for alcohol?

really? that's reassuring. i planned for med school, then decided to switch to the pa route, and was then told that it is just as competitive, if not more so than med school.

I could complain...but then I'd just be lying. Seriously the PA field is growing and full of great opportunities. You won't get rich doing it, but you can make a very good living.

IMO, you're right. Between the debt incurred, training in lieu of making money, time demands, and ridiculous administrative initiatives that are being push forth by the feds, it's not worth it.
The wife and I had the same conversation. She was a 4.0 tox major and had all the credentials needed for med school. But quality of life led her to PA, and we couldn't be happier about the decision. Especially with me being in admin and seeing the clusterfrick medicine is becoming.

I don't know about LA, but I'm pretty sure you could get into one of the 7 programs here in TX with those credentials.

PA program at OLOL is desperate for applicants right now b/c most are applying at LSU due to it being much cheaper.
With a decent GRE score, you would be a lock at OLOL. It's around 90K for the program.

Based on my WebMD research, the treatment for C. Diff is antibiotics.
Maybe the raging diahrea messed up my memory, too. The whole thing started with a sinus infection. The ER doc I saw a few days later said the antibiotics I was taking had killed all the beneficial bacteria in my system. He took me off what the PA had prescribed and gave me something else....I can't remember what. I was better after a couple more very uncomfortable days. He wouldn't come out and say it, but it was pretty clear he thought the PA was a dumbass.

They could test for alcohol if they suspected it.
Ex: coworker thought I was impaired at work.
Although....if I hurt myself at work....they automatically test for it. If positive.....basically same steps I said. It's why I don't drink (not even just one)within a 6 hour period of when my shift starts....and def not when I'm on call. Knew a nurse that got a DUI while she was off.....she had to go to rehab as well and all the other steps I mentioned to keep her job/license.
Drug abuse is a big issue in nursing.

Not a PA
But PA is a great career moneywise and you get to do cool stuff like start arterial lines, central lines and intubate.

He'd just be looking into nursing school in that case.

Also knew another nurse that got bitten by a spider at work. It got all nasty looking and they made her go to employee health during her shift. They did labs....and she tested positive for cocaine.....oops!

3.5gpa in EE should do very well on the GRE.
