A few years ago, my wife and I were at a stop sign in our Camry behind a pickup truck. For a reason we still do not understand, they guy in the truck put it in reverse and backed up into our front end.
I was recently driving through Baton Rouge early one morning on the way to work. I was attempting to turn left from College Drive onto Perkins Rd, but the redlight caught me at the last instant and I stopped a few feet ahead of the white line. I put my truck in reverse to get out of the intersection and forgot to put it back in drive. When the light turned green I punched it and went flying in reverse. Thankfully no one was behind me

That's really only slightly worse than leaving a loose kennel in the bed of a truck. Dog's going to get beat up pretty bad both ways in a wreck. And I know dog people who have trailers for their dogs like the ones posted. Those have just as much a chance of getting demolished as the bumper hitch. I think people freak out a little because of the way it looks. I admit that I wouldn't do it, but this doesn't bother me any more than people driving 55 mph with their dog freely roaming the bed of the truck.

That should be illegal if it isn't.

I used to work with a guy back in the early 80s. He did a lot of quail hunting and would haul his two bird dogs around in the trunk of his Caprice Classic. His car always smelled like dog shite

Road temps in South LA are frequently over 140 degrees.

That's asking for a dead dog and downright cruel.

My dogs ride in the back of the suv. If only one is riding, the dog rides shotgun with a seatbelt through his harness.

As for riding in the bed of the truck, I've seen a blue heeler bail out at 70, tuck and roll, get up, and start fighting a dog in a yard.

My granddad didnt have a pickup until after his boys were grown. I have many pictures of him with a limit of rabbits laid out on the back of an old Bonneville with 5 or 6 beagles standing in the trunk.

My dad always thought it was funny that when he was growing up, they would just throw the dogs in the trunk, but after Granddad got a pickup with a camper shell, he built a dog box to slide in the bed to put them in.

I could never do that to a dog that I owned. I mean, I'd never put my kid there..so why my dog? Both my lab and GSP-mix ride up front. If they're muddy...I have a seat cover for that. I'd rather clean up a dirty seat than potentially cause the dog injury or death.

With the airflow, it's not going to be near that hot. Heat is not what would worry me. I do agree that an accident spell bad news for the dog.

It's not the best way to transport your dog, and I wouldn't do it. I'm just pointing out that I think throwing dogs in the beds of trucks is pretty dangerous as well, and that doesn't get that bad of a rep.

My dog rides inside the SUV. Only time she's ever been in the back of a truck is if she's going to the camp and is covered in mud or the cab is full. Then she is in a kennel that is strapped down and secure in the bed of the truck.

The only thing is the airflow is coming off of the road. Sit on a bike out there.

It looks strange, but I don't see a problem with a dog behind a vehicle. I think most people aren't used to seeing it and freak out. No one freaks out that horses are transported the same way, cause its always been the norm.

I ride a bike on the road all the time. I sweat my arse off when it's 68 degrees in my house and I'm on the trainer. When I get out on the road and lets say it's 85 degrees, I barely sweat because of the air flow. And that's exerting a good bit of energy burning damn near 2000 calories. Not saying its heaven for the dog, but I don't think it's going to cook to death.

You are sweating it's just evaporating quickly due to the airflow, this the appearance of not sweating.

Mr new boy, we're missing a noun picture. A who, what, when or where.

If be willing to wager you have evaporative cooling going on, something the dog can't enjoy.

One of my dogs had a heat stroke when he was maybe 8 months old.

Ever since then, if it breaks 65 you have to keep him from running. If it breaks 80, he has to be kept inside in AC.

Poor guy has literally gasped until dropping blood from his mouth as we tried to cool him with ice alcohol and constant water.

Most dogs with shorter snouts have a helluva time regulating temperature.
