Asik is the first major piece that is built to work with Davis.

Honestly, Asik and Gordon both fit well with Davis.

Maybe he can go to the Olajuwon School of Rim Protection while he's out visiting camps over the summer
Rim protection is a center-centric and dominated metric, and Davis plays mostly power forward.

what about Jrue? or Cunningham and QPon? I think the odd piece out is Tyreke, to be honest. he still has in his mind that he's the number 1 option. nothing is getting that out. he should go play for the 76ers or somewhere that he can be that number 1 guy.

I haven't watched enough of the Pelicans to fully understand the team, but it seems to me a major problem is the lack of defined roles. If each player has a role and a specific job to do, the team works as a cohesive unit.

It seems there are too many players competing with each other to do the same things. And when those skills overlap, it also means there is a lack of attention in other areas.

Maybe when AD is out, that is one less major player the other players have to compete with. That means there is more room for each player to exercise their skills without competing against one another.

If they had defined roles, they would maximize the team's effectiveness. They would compliment one another instead of competing against one another.

Rim protection is rim protetion. When there's a stat that tracks opp fg% from 1-3 feet whether or not Davis is a Center or power forward doesn't mean anything.

Issue is, tyreke does not know his role offensively or defensively. His basketball iq is really low. Stat lines are nice, but there's a reason why advance stats say he sucks.

I watched basketball all day Sunday, and the Pelicans were the most grating team to watch. We don't always look that jagged, but compared to the Thunder, Bulls, Clippers, Nuggets, and Rockets...oof. I guess the best word is purpose. Those teams know what they are working towards. The Rockets for example couldn't hit the backside of a barn from downtown in the first 12-15 minutes, but they kept jacking until they started going down.

I think ATL said it in another thread; they didn't really know who Davis would be when they made the Holiday/Evans moves. Very few people (H/T Gtothemoney ) expected this type of production this soon. If you think you're getting a Serge Ibaka type project on offense, it makes sense to get scoring guards to protect Davis.

Obviously, it makes no sense to have 3 ball dominant scoring guards on the team now. At this point, it seems like moving one of them would be addition by subtraction. Holiday/Gordon would be my two, but I could be convinced on keeping Evans in place of one of the other two. I just don't know how they extricate themselves at this point in time.

I still like the idea of Asik and Anderson with Davis. Both offer great flexibility and open different things up for Davis. They've both been good with AD, but not good enough without Davis to justify the $$.
