Almost sunk my boat in Barataria pass at 1:00 am. Livewell fill hose broke lose from the transom and didn't even notice it till we went to move and boat wouldn't plane out.
Last year headed to the 20 mile rigs out of Calcasieu pass my buddy in his 22' Skeeter came upon two Pelicans floating way out and started to turn to the right to avoid them. One flew off, other waited till just the right time and decided to take flight at the wrong time.Damn thing just couldn't get airborne enough to miss us.Plastered the thing from the nose of the boat all the way to the console. All we could do is duck down to avoid the bloody, shitty mass coming our way.

I've run aground(is that a word?) twice at TB and once near pass a loutre. Ran into the timber in the pitch of night at IC. Got lucky with that one. Just ramped off the top of the stumps a few times with no major hull damage.
Mung lost control of a GoDevil at White lake and drilled a bridge piling. Threw me onto the front deck.
Tossed from a bateau in Big lake after hitting a wreck. Saw prop coming right at me. Partner grabbed the tiller right before it shaved my face off. Lost wallet.

I was on board a spot fishing boat that sank. I don't mean filled up with water and laid over on it's side. Full hull breach and sank to the bottom like a stone. This was in Puerta la cruz in 2005
The hull on my friends center console delaminated. A sheet of fiberglass about 4ft by 20 ft pealed off the side. Thankfully we were able to get it back on the trailer but the hull was so full of water it had to sit and drain for several days.
I've stuffed my skiff a few times in the biloxi marsh but never bad enough to have to call for a tow.

I never had an accident in my boat before but have had a few near death experiences on my jet ski before.
Me and my nephew were out romping in the boat wakes on cane river during fourth of july two years ago. I admittedly had way too much to drink and shouldnt have been operating any kindof watercraft. Was coming around the corner making a sharp turn and didnt see a boat coming at me pulling a skiier. We managed to dodge hitting the boat but wound hitting a log. Nephew flew off and was uninjured but i railed the log with my left leg and had wound up in the emergency room getting 22 stiches. Im lucky it didnt turn gangrene
Other time i was drunk skiing under trees. Sometimes, fishers leaves trot lines out dangling from the tree and forget about them. Well i came waterskiing and had one hook me and wrap all the way around my arm breaking all the skin in the process. Still got the spiral scar to prove it. Main problem is ive been drinking too much.

catastrophic hull failure:
had a wave pull the front of my boat under a horizontal brace on a rig and it broke the fiberglass from the gunnels to the keel. got out from under it, turned around (all very quickly), gunned the engine to try and get on plane to keep the bow up above the water and run for shore, but it didn't work. submarined about 50 feet from the rig. total loss of boat, engine, all gear.
i also stuck a mud boat way out on the southern end of old oyster bayou. had to wait hours for the tide to come up enough to get off. was w/o water to drink and dog that was winning because he was hungry.

For some strange reason, the word "moron" comes to mind??
Eta: "complete moron".

My dad has a 95 ski nautique. If you are throttled all the way down, it will run about 50 mph and if you cut the throttle and turn the wheel, it will do a bad arse 180. My dad used to do it all the time with my friends in the boat but we always knew it was coming and to hold on.
One summer, dad, his buddy and son, and myself were at our camp on lake bistineau for a weekend skiing and fishing. We were out on a night cruise. My friend and I (about 16 yo at the time) had been sneaking beers and our dads were both drinking moderately throughout the day. My friend was driving the boat pretty fast through the big part of the lake and my dad tells him "pull a 180 and lets head home". My friend automatically thinks he has been given permission to swing the boat around and goes for it. My dad was sitting on the engine console and was thrown into the water after hitting the side of the boat. Night time, no life jacket and confussion on to what just happened, scared the shite out of me. Saw my dad come up and jumped in after him. He did not get knocked out or anything but he had a bruise about the size of a basketball on his side for a month.
My buddy apologized for years.

I was passenger on a wave runner at age 13. In a small bayou and Bike didn't grab the wave in the turn....Driver lost control and we slammed into the dock. Broken foot & Life jacket prob saved my life because it absorbed most of the blow from the dock. Wave runner sunk on site.

My dad and I were out on Lay Lake, AL in late January. We had gotten on some stripes and hybrids big time throwing umbrella rigs.
We had to jump the cranking motor off previously, and the jumper cables were still hooked up. Well we notice some smoke and turn around and the battery compartment is covered in smoke. I can't even see the motor from the back of the boat.
Jumper cables came undone from one side and were touching. Opened the compartment to flames, melted jumper cables, whole 9 yards. Took off my jacket and grabbed the cables, chunked them in the water.
Somehow 0 damage except for the jumper cables. That could have been a cold swim, or a really warm flight had the gas tank ruptured.

Worst imo: When my boat was 2 months old I went fishing in Indian Creek one afternoon. Two old black guys were broken down out in the middle, and I agreed to pull them to the landing. When I left the landing I showered the throttle and before the boat got on plane I hit a big steel gate post that I couldn't see. It looked like a chainsaw went down the side of my brand new boat. Needless to say I was sick, but insurance fixed it right up.
Not worse but funny: After I graduated high school a friend and I decided to go to Toledo and camp for a few days. I had a 14' duracraft with a 9.5 ancient motor. We fished til almost dark the first afternoon we got there behind Tucker's Lake (were staying at Circle Drive). When we tried to get back going across the lake, the transmission shredded and we were stuck. Trolling battery was almost gone, and we had no paddle- stupid. As other boats were passing by I had the idea to tie underwear and socks together and dip into the gas tank, making a burning flag to gain someone's attention. No dice. During the next few hours a thunder storm blew through with lightning all around as we pulled our way through the grass with fishing poles. Got back to the camp at 4 am, feeling lucky to be alive. Great memory of my youth dumbassedness.

Seen a drunk fella jump off the front of a pontoon boat while in motion. Guess he thought it would be funny and the boat would pass right over him. Driver had enough reflexes to throw it in neutral and just the skeg caught ole baws head
Same fella that jumped had his bowrunner in the lake during a boat parade. Boat was stopped and a girl climbed off the back to pee in the water and he threw it in gear and fricked her leg up bad.

I had a similar accident but was on the opposite end. I was drunk as hell driving the party barge down the river full speed cause we were trolling for stripers at sunset. Anyway, didnt see a couple of kids swimming in the wakes on the river in life jackets. Went full speed cruising over them. Luckily only one was hit with the right pontoon. One of my biggest mistakes was that we didnt stop to check on them cause i thought i was gonna get arrested. Ive regretted thay decision everyday since then and pray to god that little girls doing okay.

We've told this story before, but Hardhead, his ex-wife and myself sunk a boat trying to out run a storm in Delacroix.
We were coming back across one of the bigger lakes/bays in the marsh and got out of the boat lane. Grass stalled out the motor. First wave spun us around backwards and the next wave crashed over the transom. We were on bottom in 45 seconds. Luckily it was only about 6 foot deep so we were able to stand on the boat and only be about chest/stomach deep.
We sunk right before dark in the summer was about 8:30 pm. The other guys in the camp found us about 4 am. That was a long night...
Captain Hardhead kept the crews wits about us. His wife was freaking and I was threatening to swim to the nearest bank and light the marsh grass on fire as a signal. He made us stay with the boat until someone found us.
This song has since become our recurring fishing theme song.
