Chavis just didn't want to pay the buy out. A&M might be in some real NCAA trouble here...

glad he's gone, he's either a moron or is so egotistical that he doesn't believe that rules or terms of contract apply to him(common trait among coaches ,) my guess would be a lot of the former, a bit of the latter

If I remember correctly, the rumor mill essentially confirmed Chavis to A&M right after the LSU bowl game. However, it was weeks before A&M ever officially announced the hire. They were obviously trying to work with Chief to avoid paying the buyout. Chavis would be in breach of his LSU contract.

Does anyone know if the NCAA prohibits a coach from recruiting for a school prior to being announced as part of the staff? I would think that would be OK,otherwise a school would be required to announce coaching changes almost immediately.

Does the NCAA prohibit a coach from recruiting for one school while under contract to another, or is that just a matter of the contractual provisions between the schools?

Thanks.

JC could care less about his employer...he was after money and a contract that guaranteed that money, as A&M will likely be his last gig.

This was done before the bowl game. They are trying to get out of paying. With 10 months on contract, after Feb 14th, no buy out. Before then, 400k is owed.

Better yet what kind of dumbass makes the argument that he wasn't working/recruiting for a school when he knew that he posed for pictures with a recruit in an A&M pullover in mid January? Did he think those pictures just disappeared or something?

Apparently someone has told them it will be hard to prove from a picture that he was gainfullly employed by aTm. I mean if there is no contract or check stub. You see where I'm going here.

I would be interested to see recruiting rules/schedules. Hell, my daughter works for an NFL team and they are instructed what to say when it comes to company or sponsors, told what airline to travel on for personal travel, and they better not ever be caught in another teams colors. I can't believe that is a benign pic or situation.

A&M has to make up their minds. Either Chavis was officially working for them and they owe us the buyout, or he wasn't and A&M is guilty of recruiting violations. What'll it be?
. How about both. A&M paying the buyout does make the infraction go away. Fact is he was recruiting for them while not on staff.

WHY?!?!?!?

Why do they have an option. Pay the buyout AND face sanctions is the correct punishment

A&M saying our contract wording sucked and their lawyers feel they can get out of it.

I think you missed the point here. I'm saying don't give him or a&m the chance to pay the $400,000 (it's money we've already paid him we would want back) and then turn them in as rules violators and call them cheaters in every press conference until the ncaa nails them

This hints he knew he would have to pay LSU & A&M must have agreed in some initial talks.
