Great whites are all around the world, thee are many people in the water with them and very few attacks. The odds of being bitten in the gulf have to be very, very low...

And old fisherman i used to work for, in pamama city, used to catch them back in the 40's. He said there were tons of them. They would catch them and drag them to the beach to harvest their livers, which they would sell.

I've dived with them before, but not in the Gulf. Amazing creatures. I'm glad they are protected in most of the hotspots throughout the world.

Unless you come across one that is pissed off because some dude grabbed it with a fishing line, dragged it ashore and took pictures of it. That shark now probably wants to eat someone.

I'm a huge supporter of hunting and fishing, but surf fishing sharks rubs me the wrong way. I know stats about shark attacks and the lack of them exist, but two summers ago in Orange Beach, a group of guys started chumming and surf fishing mid-late afternoon between a beach full of people. They pulled out a six foot black tip and an eight foot hammerhead asking children and families to get out of their way so they could pull it on shore. Needless to say they were not warmly welcomed and eventually left after numerous complaints.

I can accept that I'm in their environment and understand the risk of being there, but to entice sharks and bring them into crowded beaches of family and children is absurd.

check out the Ocearch shark tracker. They have tons of GPS tracks on tagged Great Whites all over the gulf.

true, but they aren't in the surf (that often). this little guy could still take a nice chunk out of you.

Isn't there some thought that the northern gulf is actually a nursery for young great whites?
