He has to shoot with whichever eye is dominant. Anything else is boarderline abuse...trust me on this as a right hander who shot right handed until last year after surgery. I never felt the natural sensation that comes with the dominant eye.

I shot better in 2 days than I did in 30 years shooting right handed.

Find out which eye is dominant and go from there. I'm left handed and don't do anything right handed except golf and I absolutely suck at it even when I practiced regularly. Tried it left handed and it feels more screwed up than right handed.

eta:I was taught golf right handed when I was around 9-10 years old.

Well if you want him to be able to walk into any buddy's hunting camp, pick up a gun, and be able to shoot it, then teach him right handed.

As a lefty, I'm curious to know which guns I can't shoot.

Don't do it. His dominant eye is obviously his left one. If you must do it than just put a patch on left eye and go to the range. It should be natural, for him after 4-5 sessions. TBS. If you allow him to stay a lefty you must position stands that allow for him to have easy delivery of lead

I'm the same way. There is no issue shooting right handed weapons for a lefty unless it's a shotgun.

Benelli makes the SBE in lefty and the M2 and Ithica and Browning BPS both have bottom eject pumps. There is a brand called Escort that makes lefty shotguns as well. Lefties don't have it as hard as everyone makes it seem. You can find a wide range of calibers and plenty of very reliable firearms.

The awkwardness of the safety was my main concern, not the side ejection.

I'm left eye dominant and shoot right handed. I've adjusted over but every time I shoot a rifle I'm a little to the left of where I aim. I have no clue if this is because of left eye dominance but at 31 I think it's too late to change.

I'm right handed and left eye dominate. All my AR's are lefties and my shotguns are right handed because most of them are hand me downs from my dad. The only problem I've run into shooting right handed guns were with bolt actions, you have to unshoulder it to work the bolt and powered burns to the face from some semi-autos.

all kids should be taught to shoot with their dominant eye. I have a right handed kid that is left eye dominant. It is not that hard to find lefty guns or pumps that have the thumb safety

I shoot left handed and right handed guns were never an issue for me. I never owned a left handed gun until I bought my SBE2. I like having a left handed shotgun but I can shoot a right handed one just the same. Never had a problem with my AR's or my semi auto 22's. Shooting a bolt gun is a little slower but if you make the first shot count, you can take your time bolting it. I even shoot a right handed bow left handed. I get a lot of weird looks when people see me doing that.
