I meant lower your expectations for this year's team. We are simply not there yet but we are preparing for much better results next year and beyond. Simmons and Blakeney will likely be the best duo in college basketball. Mickey and possibly Martin will be back. There's no need to trash the coach who is trying to bring the very best talent into the program.

I agree many take it too far, but he deserves criticism for how this year has gone.

Umm no. The minimum expectation was to reach the NCAA tourney. If that is not met then it is quite a disappointment. There is no debating this.

If the minimum expectation of this years team is not met then it is on the coach. Its as simple as that.

I still believe we make the tourney. Most of these comments are idiotic even though a lot of these people really think they know what they're talking about. The sets are fine. The wing play is average at best and terrible late in games because we don't have a go to player. But there are guys here talking about inbounds plays. LOL.

The inbounds plays stink too.

Having said that, do you think this thread has accomplished everything you wanted it to?

Absolutely. Too many people are talking about expectations and not really watching the games.

It's pretty funny that people have latched onto this as some sort of damning point.

Meh.

My main issues center around terrible management of timeouts and a complete inability to break a zone.

And the fact that we CONTINUE to have horrible shot selection. I understand we like to run and play at a high pace (and I like that), which means we'll have a lot of possessions and often put up shots early in the shot clock. But it doesn't excuse the pathetic shot selection that plagues every single player on the team capable of getting a shot off. I know it's at least partially on the players, and I know Jones has cited it as an issue... But why does it continue? It's truly baffling.

JJ may have initially made a big splash with recruiting, but if he can't win with the top-tier players then future recruits will take notice My expectations weren't unrealistic, they were based on some of the best returning SEC talent at the forward position, expected solid guard play with Hornsby and Gray (now Quarterman's show) and some decent play off the bench (could be better). But that should still equate to a top 3 finish in this league. It hasn't and the coach is responsible. I like JJ, but I love LSU and hope he either figures it out quickly or the school needs to find the right guy to get this program where it deserves to be, in the top 2 or 3 teams in the league consistently.

I am sure Coach Jones is telling those players to put up bad shots.

Well... he either isn't telling them or he really, really sucks at getting through to his players. Neither one is encouraging.
