Last year we had fringe 1 NBA player. This year we have 2 NBA fringe players. If Mickey and Martin stay then we have legit 4 NBA players.

I get heat because Martin and Mickey's hype right now is overrated and TD thinks they're going to be great NBA players. I guess the people who have them falling in mock drafts don't read tigerdroppings.

Yes, they do look good when they're on. But most nights we are being outmuscled and out-athleted by most SEC teams. Especially on the perimeter. That is serious problem late in games. Every team knows that if they staycclose they can beat us. That's why they sit on the ball. Nobody's getting they're own shot and that's ability, not coaching.

Putting aside the talk of how many legit/fringe/star/journeymen NBA players we may have - Do you feel this team has underachieved/is underachieving?

Neither of those boys are on JOB's level yet. We don't have a center. That's also a problem. This team has way too many holes. People aren't using their eyes.

One thing this young whippersnapper knows is that you cannot carry over timeouts to future games. So maybe CJJ could start calling timeouts during 12-0 runs to stop the momentum. Last night was not the exception, it is the norm.

I think it is funny that you found a fault in 6 players in the above post, but apparently CJJ has done everything perfectly.

Legit question. My answer is yes, I definitely thought going into the season we would be anywhere from a 7-10 seed in the tourney. Now a) there's still a CHANCE, albeit tiny, that we could get a 10 seed and b) personally, looking around the country and watching other college basketball games night in and night out, I put way more blame on the players. I watch on average 5-6 other basketball games a week. What I see is a lot of individual, play-making basketball. It's gotten to the point in college where there aren't a ton of set plays that just automatically work, so you have to have players who can break a defense down. I think this is an area LSU lacks badly. And I keep saying that if Mickey and Martin were NBA players, they should be able to score at any given point.

Calipari let LSU go on a 16-0 run and didn't call a timeout. Coaches use their timeouts differently. I know everyone hates Johnny's late game timeout plays, but it's nice to have 1 or 2 at the end of a game to fall back on

I'm not talking about the very end of the game, I'm referring to the last 10 minutes of the half. If you say shot selection hasn't been an issue with this team, I don't think you've been watching the same games as me.

I haven't the foggiest idea how you could read what I said in response to the text I quoted and come away with what is quoted above. I don't even think I used the term shot selection. Just saying that if you actually watched the game, you'd see that we didn't "settle" (properly so-used) for threes. We got left with them twice, though.

Also, if down the stretch isn't the end game scenario when it was tied or we were down 2-5 points, you aren't using down the stretch properly.

I didn't say Coach Jones didn't deserve any criticism or that he was perfect or any crap like that. Only that this team has serious holes. If Hornsby isn't hitting shots then it's Jarell one on one, a Mickey contested jumper or Gray to the hole. Our best options beyond that are Quarterman and Patterson three-balls. Y'all can believe those are great options but I'm not buying it. JOB is sorely missed on this team because we don't have a true number one option.

Calipari specifically said that he did that because he was trying to teach them a lesson after getting a stupid technical and to play through it. You have that luxury when you are 26-0 and a lock for a #1 seed, not a team that is on the bubble outside looking in. CJJ has misused TOs all season while giving up huge runs.

So have you ever asked, or heard anyone ask CJJ why he does it?

No. But it has continued to bite us in the arse game after game. If there is a method to the madness then that method isn't working.

Fans should be critical of JJ, whether he's successful or not. It's our job, and our right. Don't make it worse, though, man.

Cal does it a lot. So does Phil Jackson and Pitino. There are different schools of thought on this. Coaches that like pace will sometimes keep gunning because they get better shots that way. Not all teams get their best shots by running a set piece. I remember on one particular play when I thought Jones would take a time out, Gray made the keep rolling motion while walking it into the front court, then he hit a full spring and hit Martin on an alley oop. That was better than any set piece Jones has in his arsenal.
