I asked this question last night too. He truly is a piece of garbage who no one should ever root for. Only does this for the money and himself. He's exactly who you should never aspire to be.

He clearly needs vets (sheed, Chauncey, Kidd, Thomas, etc) around him to win.

I'm not a Melo fan but you are making it out way worse than it is.
He wouldn't have played in the All Star game if it wasn't played in MSG.
The team has traded away basically all of their players with a pulse and just bought out Amare. They want to be bad. Why should he put the rest of his career on the line playing on a bum knee for a 10 win team that WANTS to be bad?
He's tried to play through this injury multiple times this season already before they decided they wanted to throw away this season.

It's already been decided that Carmelo needs surgery. He can't injure himself anymore than he's injured by playing... meaning, he wasn't doing harm playing in the all-star game, however, he isn't well enough to play in real NBA games.
He pushed back his season-ending surgery to play in the All-Star Game for the fans since it was in NYC.
