It's already been decided that Carmelo needs surgery. He can't injure himself anymore than he's injured by playing... meaning, he wasn't doing harm playing in the all-star game, however, he isn't well enough to play in real NBA games.

He pushed back his season-ending surgery to play in the All-Star Game for the fans since it was in NYC.

That's not selfish.

Get your logic out of here!

Bingo, it makes sense if you understand the situation.

Hell, look no further than just how bad he played in the All Star game as proof that he's in no condition to play in real games.

I'm not a Melo fan and he's so overrated and you can't win a title with him as your #1, but people use those same thoughts to cloud their judgment on this situation.

Don't ever aspire to be wildly successful and get to the top 1% of the top 1% in the world at your profession. Don't be like that!!!

To be fair I can think of many other professional athletes who are wildly successful or not whom I'd look up to..Anthony is not on that list.

He's a very good invidual player, but he's not someone who I aspire to be.

It's not either/or, it wasn't framed in that way.

He's climbed higher in his profession and is better at his job than probably all of the MSB, 99.9999999% to leave a little wiggle room, but you get the idea.

To be fair his team wanted him to shut it down a couple of months ago. He was always going to need surgery but he's been trying to play through it. Supposedly he really hates surgery.

I qualify this by saying I don't necessarily care for the guy or his game either. But see it for what it is.

Shutting Melo down was a no-brainer. They're competing for draft position now.

The dude would rather play for a meaningless All Star game than play for a team who he is under contract to play for. That is the exact definition of a selfish a-hole. If you don't understand that, then that's your problem. It is what it is.

a) The team wanted him to get surgery months ago

b) He played in the All-Star game in his team's home arena for its fans and as a way to try to help lure future FA's to NY

he could probably try to lure a super best buddy team by just showing up to the all star game.

I doubt it works though considering how big of a ball hog he is.

The Knicks are 10-43 with zero shot at making the playoffs. They are straight TANKING. They WANT to be bad. They don't want Melo to play regular season games right now at all.

You're the one having trouble with comprehending the situation.

That's the organizational view. His teammates, coaches and future teammates don't feel the same way. Definitely wasn't a good look for him pr wise playing in the game.

You are pretty obviously ignoring the facts of the situation because you already have an inherent bias against him.

He was terrible in the AS game because he's in no real shape to play in real games. He can't injure the knee any more and will require surgery, so what's 1 good reason why he shouldn't play in the AS game(again, no extra harm to be done) then get the surgery...again which is necessary?

You're just whiffing on the real facts of what's going on here.
