Just came in on the end of something about Cafe Nino on Fitmorris show. Anyone catch it?

Sounds like they are closing

UPDATE:

quote:

After nearly two decades of slinging pizzas and chicken marsala, Carrollton Avenue's Cafe Nino is closing up shop on May 31. Chef/owner Nino Bongiorno tells Uptown Messenger that following a brief hiatus, he'll be seeking a new location "in the Warehouse District or possibly Freret Street."

Looks like Tom was right.

Cafe Nino, after an 18-year run on Carrollton Avenue, will close at the end of May, reports the Uptown Messenger.

When he returns from Italy, Bongiorno said he hopes to reopen on Freret Street or in the Warehouse Distirct

Never got the love for this place despite many tries over the years. It always seemed dingy/dirty and the food was just okay. Pizza was fine, but not awesome.

That's already set up at the old Boucherie spot.

We need a Besh or Link joint in the Carrolton hood. A Johnny Sanchez type place would kill in that area. I would prefer some Indian style place, but I won't be picky.

Maybe they changed their minds, because they already have the Bourre' sign on the old Boucherie building.

I really hope they're not closing. I ate there several times when I was living down there. Their cheese steak is fantastic as were their calzones.

I wonder if he'll still offer "a little wine for the digestion" gratis, when he has to start paying Warehouse District or, I'm guessing the now rising, Freret St. rents.
