For me...

Tacos = seasoned meat, shredded cheddar and sour cream

Burgers = mayo and mustard and cheese (sometimes bacon)

Chicken salad = mayo, salt and chicken (smoked or rotisserie)

Potato salad = mayo, salt and potatoes

Doughnuts = glazed or chocolate glazed

That's just for starters.

What are some foods you like that are basic, when everyone else seems to want to add a ton of ingredients, potentially watering down the original flavors?

Breakfast...

4 shots of espresso at Starbucks and steamed non fat milk. I add the sugar and stir.

this reads more like "I do not like vegetables" rather than "simple and basic"

Just about everything. As with most everything, simpler is better.

Chedder cheese and sour cream don't belong on tacos.

I agree, especially if the ingredients are fresh and quality.

Such as, I don't need a pumpkin spiced flavored coffee drink. I want coffee flavored coffee.

Sorry, I'm not feeling you on this one. Sure, I like simple and basic, but that doesn't equate to lack of seasoning or flavor. When I make "simple" potato salad, it still contains chopped hardboiled egg, pickle relish, creole mustard, and a little bit of finely chopped celery and/or chives or green onions.

Ditto for the chicken salad: damn, you need something that adds taste. Mayo plus chicken plus not much else equals cat food.

there is room for a little lime there too

I like to eat carnitas with red onions that I've had soaking in lime juice

Wow. Is it that obvious?

I did put potato salad in there.

Here's another example...I hate supreme pizzas. Too many flavors and textures fighting for my attention.

You put a lot of ingredients in that roux stew you make.
