It would be easier and they would sleep better.

Google image search "sleeping monkeys". Or do you think "preferring to sleep alone" was a trait that evolution selected for?

I had to share a room with my brother and hated it. It's 1 thing if siblings are very close, get along well and want to share a room, but it's another if you are polar opposites and HAVE to share a room.

I told my wife before we had kids that we could have as many as she wanted, but we had to be able to buy a house big enough for all to have their own room if they so chose. Our current house is 2500 sf for 4 people. I wish the kids' rooms were slightly larger, and I'd like a GIANT bonus room, so our next house will be a little larger- 3000ish sf. If my current house had a larger yard, we wouldn't be in such a hurry to move, but we never spend any time outside because the yard is too small.

Family of four here. We make decent money, but have a 1750 sqf house. Love it. Big yard, though. We also have a nice detached shop and office which helps. But we dont have enough "stuff" for a big house.

Also each kid needs their own room. Like he really means NEEDS. He won't even look at a houses unless it has 4 bedrooms because he's got 3 boys(close in age too BTW).

Well yeah. Not that big of a deal when they are young, but teenage boys shouldn't be sharing a room if parents can afford it.

I feel the same way. I shared a room growing up and would never do that to my kids. Sometimes people need privacy, if they have their own rooms they can still hang out in each other's room, but they can also go to their own room if they want to be alone. I'd rather give them the option, than force them to live in the same room together.

I can respect that. I don't agree that kids need that much privacy but I can respect that.

My rents house in Belle Chasse is 3000 sqft live in with an 800sq ft garage and it is 3 bed 2.5 bath. Plenty of room. Expensive though.

Young children may not need privacy, but I feel like teenagers do.

I've never heard of the square foot rule. 2800 is a big house to me. The people saying it isn't that big probably don't clean their own homes. That's big. But, as far as the bedrooms go, I have 3 kids as well. Until we moved in this house, my boys always shared a room. But, now we have 4 bedrooms, I'm never going back. Life is much more peaceful.

Have family of four with one on the way and three dogs, we're comfortable in a 2200 square foot home. It could be larger, but we have four bedrooms, two and a half baths, a three car garage, huge backyard on a golf course lot. We're not home all that often either. By your colleagues rule we would need a 3500 square foot home with our new child. That's crazy talk.

It's 2015 and we live in America. I don't thibk 2800 sq feet should be considered big. We have the highest standard of living in the world, embrace it and take advantage.

There's a lot of house poor people in Texas from what I can tell. Sure, a lot of households have 6-figure incomes since a lot of wives are working now days. Even still, I mean how much does a newish 2200 sq ft home cost in Lakewood these days?
