Based on him whiffing on those backdoor cuts late, this is close to debatable.

He was also able to beat his guy off the dribble and get into the lane all night and was the only reason we were able to much of any offense going against that zone.

"Overall it was a tough grind-it-out game and it was great to come out with a win."

We didn't have Patterson, the pace favorced the opponent, and the Tigers still got it done. In short time, few will remember much about this win, but for a team trying to finish high in the conference make a case for tournament selection, a loss would have been dreadful. Kudos to the Tigers for griding out a home win and let's hope they can get back to playing something more resembling their "A" game in Starkville.

When Jones was asked this after the game, he said they would get with the doctor before then and see. He didn't really give a lot of information on the injury.

In the Vandy game I remember he dove for a loose ball and the other guy from Vandy jumped on top of him. That's maybe what happened to have concussion like symptoms. Hopefully he recovers quickly, because we surely missed his depth last night and his on ball defense down the stretch.

That really was a tough spot. I honestly think Jones should have gone zone there. The guy either steps out to the three point line and takes a shot alone, or cuts back to the basket for a layup.

I can kind of overlook the first back cut...sort of, but not really. Gray overplayed a lot last night and Frank Martin took advantage of it. In that spot you absolutely have to stay between your man and the basket, especially when you are the lone guy at the rim.

Once I can learn to forgive, but twice on the exact same play with under 20 seconds left is just plain dumb. You are up 1, the further he catches the ball from the basket the better. If they want to shoot a 3 only down 1 then I don't care. But you absolutely dont let those two plays happen with under a minute to go.

Updating whether or not we can break into the top 25 this week.

#19 Texas lost to #15 Iowa State, plays @ #20 Baylor Saturday.
#20 Baylor lost to Oklahoma State, plays #19 Texas Saturday.
#21 Georgetown lost to Xavier, play @ Creighton Saturday.
#22 Indiana lost to Purdue, plays Rutgers Saturday.
#23 Miami lost to Georgia Tech, plays @ FSU Saturday.
#24 Oklahoma beat Texas Tech, plays Oklahoma State Saturday.
#25 Butler plays @ Marquette Saturday.

Then you have teams receiving more votes than us.

Colorado State lost to Boise State, plays Fresno State Saturday.
Arkansas beat Tennessee, and plays @ Florida Saturday.
Ohio State plays #16 Maryland tonight and @ Purdue Saturday.
SMU beat USF, and plays UCF this Saturday.

There are a few more, but these are the ones that are receiving substantially more votes than LSU.

Yea it is certainly fair to be frustrated with that. It was overplayed, but overall, I think Gray comes out with more confidence than he had going into the game. Happy with the 2 turnovers. Just a tough grind game.

Great write up. Just one question.

What does
quote:

LSU broke the 1 point possession barrier for the 7th time in the last 9 games.
mean?

Means that we scored more than 1 point per each possession

With the way LSU plays so much faster than other teams, it is best to look at things adjusted for pace.

Example: a team that plays a very slow pace and scores 60 points could be much more efficient than a team that scoores 70 in a fast paced game.

LSU averages 72 possessions per game and normally needs to score over 70 to win a game... This was LSU's slowest game of the year at only 64 possessions. In LSU's 64 possessions, they scored 64 points.

In LSU's last 9 games they are 7-2.

In the 7 wins they had at least 1 point per possession.

In the 2 losses they had less than 1 point per possession.

Southern Miss 87pts on 74 possessions
Savannah St 75 pts on 71 possessions
Missouri 67 points on 79 possessions
Georgia 87 points on 85 possessions
Ole Miss 75 points on 75 possessions
Texas A&M 64 points on 68 possessions
Florida 79 points on 69 possessions
Vandy 79 points on 75 possessions
South Carolina 64 points on 64 possessions

On the year, LSU is averaging giving up 0.911 points per possession while scoring 1.053 points per possession.

advanced analytics are becoming widespread and they are very useful, especially with the different styles of play.

Some people look at things like LSU is 12th in rebounds per game and think we are a great rebounding team, but we are 230th in allowing opponents to get offensive rebounds on 32.4% of their shots.

Using advanced analytics show the bigger picture and are not skewed by pace.

Yeah, it's very useful to see how efficient an offense or defense actually is. Points per game isn't too useful because different teams play at different paces.

Just want to say these weekday games are great for hitting up Chimes Happy Hour. Half-off raw oysters and $1 off pints from 4pm-7pm. I'll be there next week again.

Thanks again SOS. Looks like most of the remaining games will be close regardless of the site. If any have heart problems, you need to quit watching now

Gray was very lucky in the game to only have two. I saw him lose the ball a couple of times only to have it bounce of a South Carolina player and he recovered.

I agree that he has a few passes that weren't turnovers, but were not good passes.
