Do all coffee's have the same kind of taste or is there a big time noticeable difference between cheap and expensive coffee?

Eh, too hard to do it like that. Quality coffee is better, but you can get a very solid cup from relatively inexpensive coffee brands (8 O'Clock) The biggest are things, IMO, are:

1) Freshness.
2) Method for prep. - French press/Aero Press > good drip > Keurig > bad drip >>>>> instant
3) Water quality - Use filtered water, it helps

NO.

The first 27 years of my life I was the same as you. I never needed coffee, was perfectly fine in the mornings, the thought never even crossed my mind. The handful of times I did try coffee I was either disgusted by the taste, or didn't like the jitters I got.

Then for some reason I can't recall I started again to try to get into it around age 28. Well, now I'm like the millions of others who are more or less dependent on coffee. I don't know if I'm "addicted" to it in that I can't function without it, but it's the first thing on my mind in the morning and I typically drink coffee every single day.

If I could go back in time I would prefer that it not be this way. It's not the best on the shade of your teeth, it makes your breath smell, it makes you poop damn near instantly, and it's basically just a sunk cost having to spend money on coffee every month.

However, I love the way it makes me feel. Basically just super-productive and I"m ready to take on any task. So that's nice I guess.

Don't become a feeble caffeine addict.

Coffee is for closers.

ETA: OP, you could also employ the Larry David approach:

I don't drink coffee. I'd rather not have to rely on any type of substance to get through my day.

Have at least 2-3 cups every morning. Black, no sugar/no creamer. I think it's just a mental thing really... no coffee, no work type thing.

Black with a little sugar to fight and if the bitterness. That's ask you need.

I don't think I have any coffee dependence. I'm not groggier really, I don't get headaches and the like.

But, in the morning, I want coffee. I just like it. It's like watching a good football game and wanting a beer. I can go months without drinking (theoretically of course) but I have a sports or social dependency.

I like this thought, but i'm also not very productive in the mornings and I need to switch that up.

I don't go to the gym, so maybe going to the gym would be a first step to see if that fixes the problem.

I stopped smoking weed recently because I thought that may have been the issue. But a month clean and I still am dragging arse in the morning.

I do enjoy smoking bud. But I usually only do it about once a week. Hardly ever on a weekday. I certainly don't have to smoke to get through my day. But to be fair, you can't get addicted to marijuana. Can't say the same about coffee.

I've never liked coffee. I drink green tea since my work provides the bags for free. The only time I'm at the coffee maker is for the hot water spout.

Why do you feel you should be?

I want to like it. I try to like it... but it just comes off as burnt dirt water to me.

Because from what I have experienced with my friends, they're groggy in the morning like I am and then they have their coffee and it's like their not groggy, while i'm still struggling.
