His family thinks I come from the woods, I think. They have asked me questions about deer meat and stuff. I don't even eat deer, but I thought it was odd they never had it before. I thought they were going to fall out when we brought smoked boudin to Thanksgiving because they had never had such a thing.

I've seen backwoods fricks eat raccoon.

I was watching No Reservations reruns the other day, and he was in the Ozarks. The man of the house had just cooked a raccoon for them. Granted, the kids (in their 20s) were weirded out by it too.. so it was obvious it wasn't "normal" fare.

Anyway, Anthony asked the man of the house what he would like people to know about the Ozarks, and he responded, "Well, the common misconception is that we're just a bunch of backwards hillbillies.."

And the son interrupts, "Dad, we're eating coon"

I dislike trash more, because typically the Garden District Queens stick to themselves and there are less of them. I grew up around the trash and I grew to really dislike them. It seems as though the go out of their way to be ignorant and "hate" on people who choose to better themselves/move out of the shite hole.

The best kinds of people are those who are as comfortable shopping at a dollar store as ordering a martini at commanders. I don't care how poor or rich you are. Learn to adapt to your surroundings and not bitch about it.

I've been to some down the bayou weddings, and they were nothing short of a terrible experience, but they never "tried" to be tacky. Like there wasn't exchanging of shotguns, or everyone decked out in camo. Just a lot of crappy people gathered in one place.

My mom's side of the family has quite a few trashy individuals. They aren't the type to revel in their lack of refinement, but I can guarantee that they think I'm an elitist snob. I don't do anything in particular, but my mom married into a decent family and they think that we believe we are better than them. We are, but we don't do anything in particular to make them feel that way besides not become crack-heads and such.

This would probably shock me at this point in my life. But that's just because I don't know any people who would do some shite like this. I assume that when this type of thing happens, you go in with lowered expectations.

That's exactly it.

Hell, "nice jeans" were wedding/engagement party/etc. attire as far as I knew growing up. My dad never wore jeans to nice events, but it was a battle getting my younger brother in slacks because so many people in the family/at the event were in jeans and a tucked in shirt.

Both. Most people go about their lives without giving a shite if it's "elite" or trash. The South is extremely class conscious though.

The difference between exotic and backwoods fare is how much you pay for it.

What about that redneck who is convinced that he has the political acumen of James Madison and the economic understanding of Warren Buffet?

...And of course his world is always black/white and his convictions unwavering.
