Cooking bacon with water - Anyone do this?

0:51 second Youtube link
Gonna try this next time I want to merely crisp up some bacon. I made calves liver yesterday and made some bacon which began to stick to the cast iron, and was slightly burnt in some places.

This is how pig tails are fried in their own renderings. The same is true for some methods of making cracklins.

I guess you can do it that way, but the easiest and most consistent way is the oven, imo. Cook it in the pan if you like it soft. On the rack if you like it crispy.

youve done this method in op?

Don't care for that method. Oven for me. As a matter of fact, I've got 3 pieces on the toaster oven cooking right now for a snack... no shite.

Seems like it would take forever.

No. I'm a fan of ATK, but this just looks silly. It's not hard to cook bacon in a skillet, and it's damn near impossible to mess up in an oven.

It is also the cleanest and the bacon doesn't shrink. On the rack and the bacon fat rendered is clear with no scorched parts. Let it cool and it's white as snow. Only way I cook bacon now.

I'd love to cook it on the rack, but how the hell do you clean an oven rack? My sink isn't going to handle the size.

You're cooking on too high heat. Slow and low for perfect bacon in a skillet. It usually takes me 20-30 minutes to render 6 slices to perfection.

It most certainly does, I did it last night. It made some great bacon, though.

This is what I am talking about. The bacon grease drips clean onto the sheet pan. Then both can go in dishwasher. I buy mine at Ducotes but even Wal Mart has them. Cheap.

Ive cooked mine in a frying pan and skillet on the stove, in the oven in a pan and on a rack, deep fried in a pot of grease (works well for bacon bits because it curls up). The easiesy way is in the microwave on some contraption that my wife bought. Takes 4-5 minutes and comes out perfect.

Am I the only person who still microwaves bacon? I like it because it cooks out all the water, leaving a very crisp yet not overly browned slice.

If im cooking less than 6 slices I use the microwave. A whole pack I use the oven.

I use the microwave frequently, but not exclusively. I use a oval paper plate with a few paper towels underneath the bacon and one on the top of it. Comes out perfectly every time. If I want to render some fat while I cook it. I only covered the top of the paper plate with a paper towel. When it's done, I remove the bacon and pour off the fat into the grease container to save for future use or use right away if need be.

The only bad way to cook bacon is naked.

Not if you cook it in the microwave. Nekkid is just fine if you do it that way.
