This weekend was the gf and I 2 year anniversary. Decided to try places we've never been.

Arrived at mariza Saturday around 7:30 and was told there was an hour wait. Luckily we grabbed 2 seats at the bar and shared some plates.

Arugula salad with bacon and pecans. Lately I've been a sucker for anything with arugula. The vinegarette and blue cheese worked well together. Also was a very big salad even shared.

Next a tuna carpaccio with olives, lemon, and yes more arugula (why not). Tuna was pounded to order (you can hear and see from the bar).

Next the lamb meat balls in red sauce with a sunny up egg. This was a classic red sauce and bread dish I was looking for. When we mixed the runny yolk and firm whites it made the sauce silky yet added some texture as well. Lamb was super moist. Pretty sure there was pork mixed in with it.

Lastly we enjoyed potato gnocchi with pancetta and cauliflower. The rich béchamel sauce made the dish. Definitely cleaned it all up with the bread.

The atmosphere was lively and low lit. I was surprise how packed but also how quiet it was at the same time. Didn't have to speak loudly when taking. The only complaint I have was the service. Sitting at the bar I always expect to be well taken care of but this girl was a little off. She greeted and took drink and food orders for the couple next to us without acknowledging us. A simple "I'll be with you in a second" is all I needed. Lets say she fit the neighborhood.

After dinner it was drinks at Erin Rose then to bed.

Sunday at Elizabeth's. Arrived at 12:30 and was told an hour wait. I got a beer while she got a Bloody Mary. The bloody was really good. They pickle their own beans which is awesome but we both weren't really into the flavor. It was way to heavy on the coriander/dry mustard seed. I still enjoy the jarred Cajun Chef beans.

After a 2 hour wait (host forgot our name on list) we were seated as began our brunch.

Praline bacon was a must and did not disappoint. Something I want to try and make at home one day.

Next boudin balls with creole mustard. These were good not great but we devoured them. Growing up on Tony's boudin balls my expectations are always high.

She ordered the redneck eggs (fried green tomato Benedict)

It was good. Nothing to write home about.

I ordered the eggs florentine with fried oysters.

It was delicious. I always tend to order any brunch item with fried oysters and it never disappoints.

After brunch we hit up the fly with a few pounds from big fisherman.

They were small but flavor was spot on.

Ended Sunday with Cajun music at rock n bowl and saw this inside

Gotta start the kids early!

I lived next to big fisherman for years, and I hated being teased with the lingering smell of crawfish everyday.

Looks like a great weekend

I was there weekend before last and tried this as well. Blah. Not very good. I agree with you that the praline bacon was very tasty, however.

Is that a koozie in the pic with the gnocchi?

Nothing says fine dining like bringing your own koozie!

But for real...that food looks awesome.

I used to love Elizabeth's chicken tchoupitoulas but I haven't seen it on the menu in quite a while. I typically get the grillades and grits.
