My son is turning 16 and I'm giving him my 2008 Silverado. I'd really like to get an old muscle car from the late '60's/early '70's pretty cheap. I'd only use it to drive 5 miles back and forth to work on rural highways. Is there a trustworthy website or some other source to get information on cars for sale, especially locally?

Buy out of state, maybe Texas, to avoid as much rust as possible.

Vette Guy posted a truck from some website on here fairly recently, but I don't remember the website.

Henderson Auctions has a classic car auction once a year

Just had one in November and they had a ton of really nice muscle cars.

Get on the henderson mailing list and they will send you notice of upcoming auctions.

Best advice would be to get one west of San Antonio. There a quite a few, and they don't have rust.

A lot of the ones around here will have had the cheap bondo repairs at the rear quarters from the rainwater that gets in there. I had a 67's convertible and mine started cracking at this point and I found the problem. In the scheme of things it wasn't that bad. Also had bad floorboards and drum brakes, but all of that I diy'd for less than $1k.

Fun cars to work on, tons of parts.

If I could go back I want a 66-68 fastback. The convertible was a great car to have in High School, and a really good daily driver (this was 15 years ago) Just convertibles get old, quick.

Most muscle cars worth having are not cheap, unless you are a true OT baller. Places like Barrett Jackson have really driven up the prices of muscle cars.

a friend of mine bought a couple of cars out there last year, a Lambo and a fine arse Camaro, '69 I think, they only made a hand full of whatever it was and it has pretty low original miles on it , looked like it came off he dealer's showroom floor, completely cherried out, want to say they paid something like a buck and a quarter for it, might have been a little less

It was Hemmings.

They aren't local, but I'd start my search there.

Any specifics on what you're looking for?
Chevy, ford, etc..

The stuff I saw at Henderson was mighty rough. Could just been a bad batch.

OP, pay more for a quality car. You won't lose money on a collector car.
