He was held for three days

I don't see an issue with this at all. It will probably put the fear of God (or at the very least the law) into him and keep him from growing up to be a POS.

In some states, 9 is too young to commit a crime.

A warrant for a 9 year old?

Geesh. I wonder what their age of culpability is up there.

Clearly the crime rate in Idaho is another level than in Louisiana.

If his street name doesn't become Lil Juicy Fruit or Young Bubbilicious, I will be severely disappointed in the hood.

If my 9 yr old stole something, I'd have his butt across my lap. But no way I'd be ok with him being held by anyone for 3 days. At 9 yr old? He doesn't even stay with my mom for 3 days.

One day gum, another day doing cocaine. I think they caught him early.

Agreed. Putting the fear of God in him is one thing, but locking up a 9 yo for 3 days is way too much. At least for this crime. My kids can barely make it two days at grandma's before they're homesick.

eta- just read that he was actually locked up for missing court. That's on his parents.

He should have just looted it while rioting, that way it would be OK.

Well, make sure you bring him to his court appearance, or his other court appearance, or respond when contacted about diversion, and this won't happen.

It's a shame this kid's guardians made him go through that.

They should have locked up the parents, not the child. A 9 yr old can't be expected to provide transportation for himself for a court date.

What a waste of tax dollars. This is nothing a good ol fashion arse whooping would not cure.

It was his guardians responsibility to bring him to court or the police/courts responsibility to make sure he gets to court. It's a 9 year old dude. He shouldn't be held responsible and arrested for anything outside of the most extreme possibilities. 9 year old shouldn't even be left home alone, but they should be brought to court and jailed?

It was a stick of gum anyway. He shouldn't have even been brought up on charges. His guardians should have been made to pay the 50 cents or return the gum and he should have had his butt beat a little.

The whole thing just shows a complete lack of common sense.
