You and your wife are driving a total of around 6000 miles a month and none of that is paid for by the companies you work for?

You're doing it all wrong.

We both own our own companies and have 4 kids. She drives a guzzler in city traffic. I get about 300 miles per tank, so I drive about 2000 + miles per month. Not sure how you arrive at 6000, but I assure you, it's you doing it wrong.

And, if you don't think those miles are erased from my tax burden, you don't know much.

I dont know what kind of cars you drive so it was an assumption. You said you are filling up 8 x month. I assumed you're getting at least 450 miles per tank...8x450 = 3600

Your wife is filling up 5 x month. I assumed your wife is getting 400 miles per tank. 5x400 - 2000

3600
2000
=5600 around 6000 miles total

I own my own company and my company owns my truck.

I live 90 miles from my office and I drive 1200 miles a week...I average about 60,000 miles a year on my trucks that gets replaced every 2 years. Dont lecture me about what is what isnt tax deductible.

To all you fricking douchebags talking about, "cry me a river, overpaid workers", and other bullshite, suck my balls.

No one liked seeing $4.00 gallon gas except the major oil companies. Hell, I was complaining about gas prices myself. We don't control prices, I wish it could stabilize at an affordable price for consumers, and still be profitable for businesses.

As far as being overpaid, you sound like a bunch of butthurt pussies. Do you spend half of the year away from home and your family? Do you regularly miss most holidays? Do you regularly work 12 hour days in the cold or heat? No, then STFU about people being overpaid.

Nabors layed off all non-essential employees

Weatherford layed off a couple thousand

Patterson bumped a bunch of people back

H&P is stacking 60 rigs

On and on and on

Most people in O&G in our working generation have never seen a "bust" (myself included)

This is a great wake up call to save money

All the while Sasol is still moving forward in Lake Charles and $30B already on the books and earmarked.

In some areas, it's hard while others keep.moving forward. There's no way prices don't swing back up. If I had 50 grand laying around, I'd be buying stock like crazy.

Yes, I do. They are overpaid.

So the US is +101 in rigs, and everyone gets laid off?

Sounds to me more upper tier people (that I'm sure have more than enough money) are getting the axe right now.

Oil companies and Saudis are too greedy to keep the price this low. I will never believe that it will stay where it's at now and more people will be hired in soon.

Sucks losing your job (I was out a month and a half last year), but at all times, in this business, you MUST KNOW that at some point, you're at risk of being laid off.

that and middle management. Service companies are being asked to cut rates in order to keep people working and keep jobs going.....the problem with that is overhead cost are still high. They are trying to figure out how to cut cost and stay in the game at the same time they're trying to cut over head.(trimming the fat)

Still going pretty strong in NWLA

BHP just cut 1 Nabors rig, but Wildhorse near Ruston has picked up 2 new Nabors rigs with plans for 12 total drilling by the end of the year.

Hedged oil and dry gas are keeping it alive up here at the moment.

On the flip side, even though it is going strong, the operators are still looking for day rate cuts, which in turn leads the drilling contractor to ask me for a price reduction.

And you base this on what? Because they make more than you? Maybe you are underpaid. Is that our fault or yours?

Industry executives say companies are reluctant to let highly skilled workers go, especially when oil prices are likely to rebound in the next couple of years as global energy demand rises. But rig and fracking crews will inevitably be let go first, they said, since those workers can easily be rehired or replaced when drilling rebounds.

They are doing exactly what they planned on doing as far as production levels. They did the world a favor yrs ago when this happened last and ended up losing market share.

They are doing what any savvy business person in their position would do. I would, you would, and the overwhelming majority of everyone here would do the same thing if you are honest with yourself.

Nah, other industries are looking out for the greatest good for common people. They don't care about no stinking stakeholder maximization.

Anybody know anybody that was affected? How about people working in other oilfield services and related companies? Seems like tough times for folks the O&G industry. Folks are saying cuts are turning out to be worse than the 2008 down turn.

I don't miss this aspect of the oil bidness one bit. I was at Dresser in the 80's and we watched the rig count like a hawk. I survived a lot of layoffs before I finally got hit. Even if you make it through a round of layoffs, it drains you over time. It's an emotional roller coaster that I'm glad I'm not part of anymore. Best of luck to any of you guys in the field.

Losing a job vs paying a few extra dollars for gas isn't quite the same.

Apples to oranges.

If saving $30 a month is that big of a deal then I feel sorry for you.

I save about $160 a month in gas now(since gas was $3.50). That's a lot of money to me.
Feel sorry for me please!!!
