E-Collar Reccomendations

Looking for a new E-collar for my GSP, what are you using, suggestions for both non GPS and GPS compatible. GPS isn't a priority, I bought a cheap one to see if she would train with it but I don't think it was water proof...

What are you going to use him for? Pointer, retriever? That will dictate which model you get as they go up in price as you need further range.

I have a garmin alpha 100 track/train with TT10 collar.
It is absolutely glorious.

Dogtra if you want a beeper collar. They are very good. If you want to get serious and spend money, then Garmin Alpha (they bought Tri-Tronics) for GPS...

SpotDog SD-425 is what I have.

Tri-tronics Flyway here. Its for a duck dog not bird.
Rarely if ever use it though.

Really right now she is used for tracking, that's all I have exposed her to, she has a wicked nose and lets just say sometimes she get's stubborn following it and can get off track, she will come back on command, sometimes correction is needed. I don't think I need the range of a GPS model, but I wouldn't mind 3-400 yards...

If you think you are only going to use her for tracking and that is the distance you'll need, prob best to round up to a half-mile distance at a minimum. I have the Garmin Delta Collar, their lowest model. I haven't really pushed it to the extreme, but when i push the button my dog reacts as he should. It has 18 levels of "stimulation" (cracks me up that they say that), my dog reacts very well at the 7 or 8 range. So good to know if he toughened up that I would still be able to keep this collar for awhile.
If you haven't used ecollar, make sure you start low and work your way up to determine the optimal "stimulation" for your pup.

Non-GPS: SportDog or TriTronics.

The garmin is definitely top of the line. Full track/train capability up to 10 or 11 dogs.
The bad: it's $800, extra collars are knocking on $300, it's fairly complex if you aren't a tech-savy guy, and the touch screen isn't my favorite thing.
The good: EVERYTHING. The training function can be set up as linear (1-18) with momentary continuous and tone, or traditional (set the power level and use either low medium or high momentary continuous and tone). Being able to tell what the dog is doing no matter how far away it is makes a huge difference in your confidence that you're hitting the button at the right time.

I had a Dogtra when I had a dog. It worked well, never any issues.

I run the sportdog sd1825 I think. One mile. When I talked to Steve at gun dog supply he said he had been using it for a couple seasons and they got it to hit at 2 miles across flat uninterrupted ground. Has shock beep and vibrate.
